I changed out the reeds of my 84 spree with a set that I pulled out of another spree(86), the SB50 is an 89 that I haven't messed with yet other than see if there was a variator in the drive train... there wasn't :cry: It was listed as an 89 elite "E" for sale, but the VIN tag says it's a SB50P. Okay... Discount Honda parts website said the reeds are no longer available from Honda.... anyone know where I can get new reeds for a 84 spree?

Vacuum leak... didn't think of that, but now that you mention it... I think I'll start there. The belt is nowhere near 1mm from the outside of the rear pulley!!!! More like 12mm!! It looks fine to me. I'm going to change the reed and gaskets as soon as the parts come in. I'll keep that in mind when I install them.
