Also unless you clean the carb and tank, I'd recommend inserting a small mc filter in the fuel line form the tank to the carb to catch the stuff.

Remember to change it in 500 miles or if its weak again. The small mc filter will clog up.

If that doesn't work - I'd clean the tank filter.

starter whirs faintly for a second

Starter was working great. Now all I get is a faint whir for a second but no motor turn or what I'd describe as a click or clicking. Starts great off kickstart still.

What's my next step?

Your budget says Spree to me as an Elite 2 stroke or 4 stroke will be
$600-800 for older ones until gas goes below $3 or winter comes and you live where there is a real winter.

I have an Aero 50 which is a pre-Elite 50 2 stroke. Sometimes you'll see an Aero priced like a Spree. Aeros 50 are easy ...

Hi

I found my hard start problem when I pulled the spark plug to inspect or replace it. My added inline filter was blocked pretty good and was restricting gas flow. That restricted gas flow showed up more
when I needed a richer mix at the start than once it was running.

Now I just need to watch ...

Isn't the issue is whether your wife can handle a squirrelly suspension at the 50 mph you want her to go?

I'd look over the road surface as that quick for a less than perfect road.

Look at the technical faqs on how to clean carb near top and how to clean fuel and oil systems at bottom.

I would buy a new airfilter - yours is no longer functional as plastic foam just won't last 20+ years.

I'd dump the oil and gas. On the gas dump some into clear glass to evaluate rust and use ...

I cleaned the carb a year ago and filter then and earlier this year.
I'm off to buy a new plug as I've got 1000 miles on it since I put a new one in. It runs ok or the same once started and does seem to start with starter or one kick right up if I've run it and its hot.

Will running the cooler plug ...

Slow to start

I have an Aero 50 that is getting hard to start.
In the past if the battery was weak , I could kick start it in 1 or 2 kicks.
Now I get a slower crank w/o starting but if I kick start instead - that's taking alot more kicks and trys to get started. I'd be looking at the starter as the battery is ...

I use Motul 710 syn. I've heard Redline syn leaves deposits and
you shouldn't have any when you pay 2x Honda lube prices for syn.

I wouldn't be worried about the gas. 100 -140 spree, aero and elites need to be chained down or locked inside when gas prices go over $3.

Castrol tts 2 stroke works well and may be more available.

I meant Motul710 and its the same as either 600 or 800 in smaller 1/2 liter bottles. Just choose the 600 or 800 labeled for injectors and premix.

Color is just so you can see you mixed with gas .

I'd look it up on maunfacturers website before I used a racing 2 stroke.
If the manufacturer doesn't list injectors -
What you are looking for is a viscosity like a 20w oil as injector oil need to be thin to pump. Also if it's recommended for snow ...

Second thoughts on auto store 2 stroke. I looked at the Valvoline site
The 2 stroke motorcycle in black bottles for motorcycles is for premix - 20-50w and way to thick for an injector. The only valvolines 2 stroke are - the outboard motor that is for injection , some oil in a whilte bottle says ...

I'd still use the internet and get Motul710 or any of 4-5 injector syns and semi syn-

But if I'm limited to auto stores- no internet, no Moto shops I'd use the semi syn valvoline 2 stroke in the pint bottle. You might see Mobil One
2t syn which is labled a premix in pints. It's thin enough to use ...

Motul 800 or Motul 710 - same price as Redline works way better.
