Okay I feel really dumb. I just realized from the last reply that you have to have the brake on when you press the start button.

When I hit the start button the headlight dims and nothing happens. If I short the solenoid terminals it starts. I was told that power for the solenoid comes from the brake light. So is there a swich somewhere that is engaged when the brake is on that might be bad? If so where is it? If not, what ...

How do I tell if my solenoid is bad or it's something else. When I use a screwdriver to short out the two post on the solenoid the engine cranks over. I put a test light on the one post that should get 12v once I hit the start button but I get nothing.

Does anyone know where I can get a bystarter gasket for an 85 Elite 150 or can I make one or use silicone gasket cement?
