Re: tuning with taz parts
I'll check the slide tomorrow. but as far as i checked, after seeing how it was fast idling i checked the throttle cable to see if came down all the way and it hadn't so i adjusted the hex nut on the cable to lower it all the way. maybe this causes the slide to not go up all the way anymore..hmm i ...

Re: Tested the spree performance muffler
ah is that how it works? lol
i didn't know much and just bought the parts from taz but seeing as how you said it's harder to tune bigger carbs, we'll see...
and sorry taz, i wasn't hijacking your thread
if i can get this 21mm carb tuned, i'll be so happy. and get confidence to maybe buy ...

Re: tuning with taz parts
i did go richer bear
i went back to 32:1 because it seems the 40:1 premix needs smaller jets
currently, i am running 32:1 with a 95 main and a 42 pilot
the thing i dont understand is though, taz recommended in a piece of paper he sends with all of his kits to use 32:1 for break in and 40:1 or 44:1 ...

Re: Tested the spree performance muffler
thanks abreen89
i didnt know he started selling a 24mm carb until last night.
i didnt see any updates from taz so i figured he maintained the 21mm carb.
i'll be sure to buy it soon but we'll see...im having the hardest time tuning the spree with this 21mm carb.
it's killing me

Re: tuning with taz parts
man i'm having the biggest problem right now
i removed the oil pump and started premixing with 32:1 exactly and it won't take the 95 main or even the 42 pilot
i'm all the way down to a 88 main and a 35 pilot. somethings terribly wrong.
before i mixed precisely, i just filled the tank to the top ...

tuning with taz parts
Hopefully I get a lot of people who use taz's parts
To everyone who uses taz's parts, I just want to do a survey on your tuning set up.
Please don't bash me for saying how the tuning differs from area to area because I know altitudes are different with everyone.
If you are running the:
48mm bbk ...

Re: hard to set idle/pilot issue
there was an airleak in the head gasket as well as in the intake manifold, but i fixed those two.
i leaned the oil mixture in my new tank of gas from 32:1 to 40:1
my main jet is 88 and my pilot jet is a 35
i'm having the hardest time setting the pilot jet though.
the spree will now idle fine with ...

Re: hard to set idle/pilot issue
ok so i checked today and there is a leak on the head but that's an easy fix.
my compression is below 90 psi now.
i do not have a gasket at the cylinder and muffler connection but i never had one there and it worked fine. guess it caught up with me.
i'm going to check if the slide is the issue but ...

Re: hard to set idle/pilot issue
haha you still didn't answer my question. all you did was point out my obvious lack of knowledge, which i am already aware of.
i will post it again.
how can extra air cause this fast idling?
is what i'm describing called fast idling, where the engine just revs without having the throttle pulled ...

Re: hard to set idle/pilot issue
so you have never seen this as a symptom for richness?
i'm close to the smallest pilot jet available for the pwk carb and i was getting worried.
I don't think my oil mix is too rich either because the color isn't that dark. it's the o'reilly's brand.
how do I adjust the throttle cable? i'm using ...

Re: hard to set idle/pilot issue
ah yes bear i knew i should ask taz so that's what i've been doing for the past couple of months.
he helped me set the main right so i'm good on that but this is what he said after i sent him the latest email last night.
This is what I said:
"Dear taz,
I tried both the 38 and the 35 pilot jets but ...

hard to set idle/pilot issue
I have an 86 spree with taz's 48mm bbk, 21mm carb, and his gears.
My compression is 100 psi.
I currently have an 88 main jet and 35 pilot jet installed.
I'm running 32:1
I am having idling issues where I cannot get the spree to idle. I would think I got it when it just sits there purring nicely ...
