OK no luck. I looked at my FUBAR carb and I can see there are supposed to be holes in that "pin * of light" tube if you look into the air mix screw hole. Those aren't there (well kinda, I can see one but can't unclog it) on my "good" carb.
So I am at the point where I wanna just but a good carb ...

Re: NO IDLE -- Will '86 Carb Work On An '85 Aero?
Mmk I just ripped it off the bike again.
Tried compressed air, carb clean, and small wire down the pilot.
No pin * of light.
Soaking in the can of carb dip again...

OK is there a blown up pic of where exactly the pilot is?
I will go at it with everything I got once I can identify it...

Re: NO IDLE -- Will '86 Carb Work On An '85 Aero?
OK so a 16-hour carb dip had no effect.
Everything seems to flow well for me...
But the d*** thing doesn't idle when the bystarter is plugged in...
Is there any issue with just leaving the * thing permanently unplugged so I can go about my life and not have to tear this thing down every night?
Thanks

Re: NO IDLE -- Will '86 Carb Work On An '85 Aero?
So can I trust wikispreedia when it says that if the bike runs better with the bystarter disconnected then the idle jet must be plugged?

Re: NO IDLE -- Will '86 Carb Work On An '85 Aero?
OK! So I got the bike running and unplugged the bystarter and then went for a ride. The bike idled the entire time.
So this tells me I need to clean the carb...again...and more.
I'm gonna go get a carb dip and let it soak a bit this weekend.
Also pulled the plug. It was a ratty old Autolite plug ...

Re: NO IDLE -- Will '86 Carb Work On An '85 Aero?
dun rite, it's a good idea but from what I can discerne from the article, I have the opposite of a bad bystarter...
This sounds like what my bike is suffering from: "When the pilot jet is clogged, once the bystarter system shuts of extra fuel, the engine will die." This might be an explanation ...

[quote="dun rite"]you've tested the bystarter and checked the o ring real well?
I've done neither of those...are those described in the repair manual?

Re: NO IDLE -- Will '86 Carb Work On An '85 Aero?
Alright. Now I am just frustrated...
Now the throttle response isn't linear and it bogs down seemingly randomly now...
Still won't idle after running for about 30 seconds...
What next fellas?
Haven't checked the plug yet since there's cover over the head and the rubber nipple over the top of the ...

Re: NO IDLE -- Will '86 Carb Work On An '85 Aero?
so the air mixture adjustment was confusing in the repair manual.
"Air Screw Opening: 1-1/4 turns out"
Does that mean to unscrew it anywhere from 1/4 of a turn from seated position to 1 full turn from seated position
or
anywhere from 1 full turn from seated position to 1.25 turns from seated ...
