Re: Abuse on a moped?

I had one of my old Harley buddies offer the same thing. I told him I`d do it, and his jaw dropped! Then I told him the rules: I`ll put a cup of gas in mine, and you put a cup of gas in yours, and we`ll race to Bridgeport and back.

He declined. :surprise:

:bowrofl: well, there's one challenger ...

Re: '86 Spree Iowa build

Greets to you SirB. Have fun with your jigsaw puzzle! At least with this, if there's a piece missing you can hunt one down. Good luck with resurrecting your scoots (worse case scenario you should have enough parts to build one runner) :thumbwink:

Re: Abuse on a moped?

Here in South Australia we have a number of laws that address these kind of issues. You get the a-hole's license plate and report them to the police, and for their efforts they get a visit from the knuckle dragging arm's of the law at their doorstep. Anyone engaging in burn outs or street racing is ...

Re: 1985 Elite 150 Full Restoration - In Progress

I saw those wheel hubs in that bath and thought no good will come from this. I hope it has only done minor cosmetic damage to the hubs. Paint stripper won't attack aluminium, same goes for non caustic based spray-on oven cleaner (I've discovered this method can work wonders with cleaning grimy ...

Re: Please Is this an '87 Spree Exhaust?

Warning, minor deviation in the thread here... I remember a tale of how, while Norton was testing one of their engines (I think it may have been the Commando), their test rig fell over accidentally and it bent the header pipe up near the mounting flange. When they uprighted the test rig, the engine ...

Re: Rebuilding a 89 Honda Elite (Canadian version) 50CC

the cooling shroud is the black plastic casing that covers the engine barrel and head. I've used silicon spray to rejuvenate the plastic on the shroud too -

Re: Rebuilding a 89 Honda Elite (Canadian version) 50CC

Very cool! I like the Elite R graphics. Give it an epic clean and hit the panels with some wax - it'll come up nicely. I've noticed the footwell panels always look chalky and faded (fuel being spilled on them turns the plastic ugly) I've found giving them a spray with cheap silicon based tyre shine ...

Re: 1984 Honda spree starter issue

The kick starter's internal mechanism. Remove the kick starter arm, take the transmission belt case off and disassemble the kicker gears so you can give the bushes and shafts a good degrease and clean up. Ask what is a suitable grease/lubricant to repack and assemble the kicker (dry-lube, lithium ...

do not remove the center post on the in take port ....

^what he said. And don't do it with the case and crank assembled either, it will end in tears. Take the bottom end of the engine apart and take your time when cleaning up the ports. You can always remove metal from the casting ...

Re: 1987 SE50P --- No Idea What To Do!

The case inlet ports are normal, they spend minimal time removing casting 'flash' in the factory (thus the rough looking deburring effort around the port walls). The 'cracks' around that bushing are not cracks but surface expansion flaws from the casting mould (they're only a cosmetic thing). If you ...

After 40+yrs. from mopeds to scoots Its all about the build, its one thing to spit out custom hogs untill they become worthless, i can't find one company that can spit out a custom scoot :drama: :drama:

There is a reason why custom 'hogs' are worthless, and it's due to the fact they are being ...

You seem to like pushing part sales. Just an observation. :eyeroll:

Re: Just asking

With the air flow restricted in the intake it would be similar to running smaller inlet ports. The engine would have good throttle response and low down torque but it would strangle the top end range. The more I read up on 2 stroke engines the more I realise how sensative they are to tune and set up ...

Re: Piece of piston ring missing. Where could it of gone?

Don't wanna be the guy who spoils the party, but the only way to make sure nothing metal has gone wayward in the casing is to pull 'er apart. If it made it down to the bottom of the crank case, it could've caused all kinds of damage (I'd expect the bore, piston and head already have scoring or some ...
