Solved

Found the problem. Floated the carb in a glass of gas, and discovered the float was not activating early enough -- not floating until totally subnmerged. Upon inspection -- a hairline francture in the float was allowing small amounts of gas in.

Looking to seal the float now, or get another one ...

Dies when I hit a bump.

Got the old gal runniing, and now whenever a hit a bump or even rock off the stand -- it quits. Restarts immediately.

I have put in a new plug, "tapped" on all the elecrical components except pulse generator, and she runs fines, so I'm ruling out ignition. But what the heck else could it be ...

It was the carb. There are two small orafaces -- one from the top, and one from the bottom right by the main jet. (The one from the bottom has a small tube right next to the main jet.)

I soaked it, blew it, but it would not open. Finally, I sacrificed my second smallest guitar string, made a 6 ...

Starts but dies on throttle

I know this is a common problem, but I've searched the threads and have come up wanting.

I have a 1984 Spree that was so neglected the drivetrain had over a cup of sand in it and the starter and pinion had to be rebuilt. (rusted)

I cleaned the carb -- twice. It starts like a gem, but can't take ...

I had a real mess on my scooter here. Before you go any further ... STOP!

Pull the starter bolts and see if you can turn the start by hand. If not, you will need to bebuild it (if you still can. Powering a frozen starter can fry the wiring.)

I rebuit mine, and it was easy. Disasemble starter ...

Define the "electronic timing thing. Do you mean the pulse generator (below the flywheel/fan assembly) or the CDI (buy the battery)???

I'm kinda new to this machine, but here is my 2 cents...

The float in the carb controls a valve that IF WORKING PROPERLY will not allow too much gas in the carb bowl. Therefore, you basically have two controls over getting gas into the bowl.

Most cycles only rely on the float, and don't use this ...

I feel your pain. It all comes back to the basics. If you have sucess in restricting the air flow, what you are doing is making the mixture richer. Remove your hand and you go lean.

Ergo, you have a carb issue, wherein the mixture is now way too lean to even combust. If you did all the mods you say ...

A contribution to be added to the Technical Docs

I would add this myself, but we lower life forms are locked out of the Tec Docs folder. :?

I could not get my hands on the OEM plug (NGK BPR6HS) so I looked up some others.

Autolite 4123 (I bought this one at my local Autozone for under $2) It works ...
