Re: To sell, or not to sell my 85 Aero 50, that is the quest

Got her all put back together, only a few extra bolts. I have been getting a lot of interest from people on CL but I think I'm talking everybody out of it. I don't think I really want to sell it...

Re: To sell, or not to sell my 85 Aero 50, that is the quest

i think you should try and sell it. parting it out will take along time. i know you can sell that basket on ebay, ive seen ones where you bid, not buy, go upward of $100

if you price things to move they will sell, $15 for a seat, $5 petcock $7 coil not to mention the piston and cylinder are ...

Re: To sell, or not to sell my 85 Aero 50, that is the quest

You want a crankshaft from an 86-87 nb50 (aero 50), or an 87 se50( elite 50). Which I believe was in the link I posted. For $100 it's not a bad deal.
As far as getting it "trued by a pro" I meant you should take the crank to a small engine builder who deals with motorcycle/dirt bike/scooter ...

BBK Comedy...

I told my wife I want to put a bbk on the scooter. She said, "Why do you want to put a big black kid on your scooter?"

Re: To sell, or not to sell my 85 Aero 50, that is the quest

no new crank yet as i'm not exactly sure what i need. they look to be about the same size but the 80 mount is rectangular and the 50 mount has a slight inward curve in between bolts. Should be fun to check though tomorrow. I hope i can use something off that 80 engine.

Re: To sell, or not to sell my 85 Aero 50, that is the quest

If you don't mind my asking, what are some other possible distinguishing features for identifying this engine?

Crankshaft

It would be worth the extra $50 or so to have it trued by a professional before installing.

Trued by a professional?

I'm not sure if that's the right part anymore. I posted a WTB ad and mousewheels ...

Re: To sell, or not to sell my 85 Aero 50, that is the quest

I doubt the cranks are interchangeable. If all you have of the 80cc is what's in the pic then it may be easier and cheaper to keep the 50. Although I've been dreaming about an nb50 with a nh80 swap for a while now. Can't say I've ever seen one...

I found a few different build threads for it and ...

saw a pair of these, grenade valve caps, at a car show i went to yesterday. they would be perfect for your militia scoot. Still kicking myself for not buying a pair for Tootie!

Re: To sell, or not to sell my 85 Aero 50, that is the quest

There's an old build thread where someone swapped an Aero 80 motor into an Aero 50 (I think, on second thought it could have been a spree). Either way reading it should give you a good idea of what work would be required.

Yeah man there are quite a few. The 80cc looks like it's in ruff shape, but ...

Re: To sell, or not to sell my 85 Aero 50, that is the quest

Crackin' away at cleaning today. I got ahead of myself and took apart the starter motor, not sure how to put it back together! wire brush bit to nock the funk and rust off, but still looking funky. Frustrating day! Good news is i have plenty of time to clean the engine until i have enough money to ...

Re: To sell, or not to sell my 85 Aero 50, that is the quest

It looks like you have a 4 bolt intake. Which would mean you have an 86-87 aero, or at least an engine from one. I'd rebuild it as well. It has plenty of potential!!! Talk to red eft for a bore kit as well. Worth every penny.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm really just trying to get it back in ...

Baby's first rebuild

Learning as I go. I have almost no mechanic experience. I have been receiving all my info from what I read from threads on this forum and feedback from members. Today I printed two pages from the 85 Aero 50cc Service manual (41/42) to remove my engine. Few beers later I got her out of there! :woot:
