83 Aero charging issue and headlight.
I had an issue with the 83 aero 50 not charging the battery. I was only getting 4 volts back to the battery and the battery would eventually die. After tracing the wiring, replacing the rectifier, replacing the stator I was still only getting 4 volts. Sat down with the wiring diagram again and found ...

Re: Newbie question about rollers and belts
UPDATE: When installing the new stator I found that all the wires coming from the stator had been crushed. They were jammed between the starter and the motor block. Had to remove the starter to get the wires out.
Don't know if it was the crushed wires or the stator itself but the battery is ...

Re: Newbie question about rollers and belts
Greetings:
Quoth CircusBear:
Are the stator coils corroded, marred or damaged? That's a part that fails infrequently.
One set of coils was wrapped in paper(?) and not viewable but the exposed coil looked dark and dirty, almost as though it had been burnt. I bought a voltage regulator first ...

Re: Newbie question about rollers and belts
Found an OEM stator! It is shipping today from Michigan and should be here by this weekend.
Hope this solves the charging issue.

Re: Newbie question about rollers and belts
Yes I have the manual. I have carefully looked over the wiring and have verified all the ground wires are grounded.

Re: Newbie question about rollers and belts
I thought it was the battery too. Purchased a new one and the same problem exist. Returned that battery and the new one is doing the same thing. I replaced the voltage regulator first and this did not fix it. When running I am only getting 4 volts going back to the battery so all the power to run ...

Re: Newbie question about rollers and belts
Thanks for the help. I will pull it off tomorrow and see how everything looks.
I bought a bicycle for $50 and later traded it for this Aero. The only thing wrong is the stator. I can only ride it for about 15 miles and the battery dies. I can't find a stator anywhere. Until I do find one I'm stuck ...

Re: Newbie question about rollers and belts
What should the belt width be? Is a narrower belt an indication that it is wearing?

Re: Innacurate speedometer
Update: With trial and error I was able to reinstall the speedometer needle to a position that will give me a more accurate reading.
It is spot on at 25mph, when I am going 36 the speedo reads 37. At idle the speedometer is way below zero so at speeds below 18 it is not even close. I can live with ...

Re: Innacurate speedometer
Yes the bicycle speedo is accurate. I had my wife follow me and she verified my speed at different intervals.
I was able to take off the plastic cover on the speedometer and have removed the speedometer needle. I am able to install the needle at different starting positions so my plan is to install ...

Innacurate speedometer
The speedometer reading on my 83 Aero is way off. I knew I wasn't going as fast as the speedo said so Installed a bicycle speedometer and found that when the speedo reads 30mph I am actually going 25mph. When it reads 42 mph I am only going 35.
Is there a fix for this or should I just live with it?
