The stay itself was bent and would not line up with the holes on the plastic cover. I've now learned that the frame itself is bent.

It doesn't have to. Mine was bent from a fender bender that also cracked the hood.

Just to update, it does indeed fit. The color is technically different (Monza Red vs. American Red) but it doesn't seem to be all that different.

I'm trying to replace my cracked front cover on my 2001 Elite SR. So far it's been a straightforward process (outside of sourcing, which has been more difficult) but I can't seem to get the stay to come out. I've removed the screws, but it seems to still be held in place by a plastic "tab ...

I need a new cover but having a hard time finding one for my 2001. I was told I could buy one for a 1995 and they would fit. Can anybody confirm?
