Re: 87 elite grounding problem....

What would cause my 87 elite 50 to run sporadically until i have the rear brake lever held against the metal that has it pinned in place?

The scooter will be very hard to keep at a constant speed and won't go over 20ishmph. I can hold the brake lever up just enough that it's touching the metal ...

Yeah. i have a battery and at one point it was fully charged and the headlights still flickered when i reved it. Like they get brighter when it's working right and when it bogs down you can see them go dim.

Here is a quick video of what it does when not moving.

It can go around 25mph with some trouble but it runs well enough at that speed to keep going.

What does this wire do?

The green ground wire on the right. It's frayed and i thought it might be the thing causing my scooter to not function properly. It has a slight nic in it but i couldn't tell if any metal was touching it but i have some sort of electrical grounding problem. The 86 or 87 elite 50 is really sporadic ...

Use a breaker bar for more leverage. You might also need to wedge a board in the rim to keep it from spinning while taking the bolt off.

Slide the breaker bar over your wrench and give it a try. A good 2foot breaker bar will make it so much easier to take off the nut.

I took a short video (really to test out my new camera  ) but since i wasn't getting any answers before maybe this will help. I'll probably take another one later this week b/c this one is not exactly the best indication of the problem.

I also have an 86 spree that i switched rectifiers to check if that was the problem. The 86 isn't running but they seemed to be the same type so would that fix that problem? Is there a way to test the rectifier?

How do i check for a leaky coil?

86 spree wont start(has spark, compression, fuel)

My 86 spree has sat all summer :(
I know it has spark and compression and is getting fuel. Carb is super clean and intake is breathable.

What else can i check to see if that helps it start?

Sporadic acc. along with headlight brightness fluxuations

I have an 87 elite 50. Got it free in almost running order. Had a bearing fail and had to replace it which involved removing the engine and breaking it down.... It ran fine for a little while after this but then developed some sort of electrical short/glitch in one of the parts somewhere.

Seems ...
