I'm not waiting!

Since my scoot is now running and working well (I think), I'm too impatient to wait for it to warm up. I've been riding it daily to work - temp from 30 degrees to almost 50 degrees - just layer up and go!
Helps that I work only about 1 1/2 miles from home 8)

The neck muff thing is the trick, that ...

Late to the party but that's the story of my life

It's true - the 87 Spree has the petcock cover molded into the side body panels - split down the middle as someone noted. Til I figured out only the 87 is like that I wondered how anyone could possibly lose theirs

Me too! Congrats to you and me

I too finally got my Spree baby fixed and running just today...Runs great, body looks good, all lights work, yay! I have no idea how fast it's going to go or what the mpg will be, but I'm hoping my 135lbs will keep both up high
Seriously - great news on getting your scoot going - it can be a ...

Ahh the microfiche is the ANSWER

Thank you very much for the info - I actually have access to a fiche but need to get myself to a library apparently, or now, visit that great link!
Btw, I had to delete the last bit of the link to get it to go to the site - but it works!

Need good exploded view of 87 Spree head assembly

Ok. I admit it, I didn't baggie and mark every screw or take pics of before, during and after disassembly of the head of my Spree (I was checking the brake cable). Now I'm looking at a mess that is without equal, and the service manual so helpfully posted isn't showing me what I need.
Can ...

Seat cover vs Recovering the seat (hee)

Gosh - wish I'd known that! I spent $100 on getting my badly torn seat recovered. I mean, it looks amazing but not $65 worth of amazing. Ah well.

Also, there are premade seat covers

I've seen them up for bid at EBay - spoke to the guy and he said they come in black only but they look pretty decent in the pics....

Edited to add: they seem to be going for around $30 plus s&h.

brake stops the bike but is really loose?

Ok, since I am now able to get the front tire to turn (although it feels "wrong" somehow in the way it moves), I decided to attach the brake system back up see what happens. Well, it does stop the scoot. Hard stop, no easing on the brake - off or on. Is this still a seized brake issue or is it an ...

I tried that :(

I was able to loosen and even remove the nut at the brake end of the cable, but it doesn't want to go back on very far, and the whole brake line seems really really loose - I finally got the front wheel to actually turn by loosening the nut (tried both sides), but can't actually get the wheel off to ...

Yay Marie!

I too am working for the first time on a little scoot - my new 87 spree. I know NOTHING about mechanics and am having to learn from the groung up.
Your posts encourage me, along with all the helpful folks here who are nice enough not to point and laugh at my questions.

Front brakes frozen/bad?

Morning all!
Fixed the rear tire mounting problem - thanks for all the help!
Next problem - bought this scoot knowing something was wrong with the front brakes - the previous owner called them "tight" but as far as I can tell they are frozen (or something - they certainly don't work).
I've traced ...
