I got a compression gauge and found that there was only 70 PSI compression. I took the head off and found that the cylinder/piston had some damage. It appears that some metal was introduced which melted and caused some buildup in the cylinder and some gouges in the piston. I also found a crack in ...

It's not a plugged carb, I cleaned it out. It has compression, if I put my finger over the fuel intake I can feel it being sucked. It also will puff air out the exhaust. I am wondering though if I could have blown one ring or maybe both. Enough so that it would pull but not enough to cause ignition ...

85 Spree won't start

Alright, I finally got my spree running great. It would do about 30-31, started up well, idled fine. Saturday I took it out with my fiance and we rode about 20 miles then it suddenly lost power. I let off the throttle and after about 30 seconds I pulled the throttle full open and it accelerated. By ...

I replaced the crankcase, head and lower gaskets, piston rings, changed the oil and generally cleaned up the engine and now it runs great. Before my max speed was around 26, now the Spree can do about 30-31. It would seem the rebuild was a great idea. It still doesnt like to idle very much but it ...

I did a plug chop and it was a cocoa color. The carb is clean, I was able to see a little light through that hole. It has a few leaky gaskets so I am going to try and replace the gaskets as well as the piston rings. It looks like the head gasket has some oil/gas mix leaking from it. Once I replace ...

85 Spree two problems

I have an 85 Spree with two different problems. The first is that it does not like to idle very much. Once I start it, it will run well for about 30 seconds then it starts to die. If I give it just a little throttle it stays running but its not exactly idling. I have cleaned the carb a dozen times ...

No holes in the airbox, one of the first things I looked for. I will post what happens when I put the new gaskets in.

If I feather the throttle right I can get it to 25 with me on it (190 lbs), with my fiance on it (125) it can make it to almost 30. I would bet it would go pretty fast if this problem didnt occur.

Sorry it took me so long to get back. I have an air filter, and the plug insulator looks just about the same color hot or cold. I found a leaky gasket on what I think is called the fuel intake, where the oil and gas mix and go through a reed valve. I am waiting on the new gaskets and I am wondering ...

85 Spree problems at top speeds.

I have an 85 Spree which runs great at low speeds. It accelerates quickly and is smooth until it gets to about 20-25 then unless I am really sensitive with the throttle it will start to die. When I hold the throttle wide open and it starts to die if I let off the throttle it comes back and I have to ...
