Re: Quick replacement for a throttle pin retainer?

Oops, sorry to confuse everyone. I'm not talking about the little c or e-clip but rather the thing shaped like a "W" that sits on top of it between the c-clip and the spring.

Thanks for all the help and offers so far though!

Quick replacement for a throttle pin retainer?

I took apart my throttle assembly on my '86 Spree that I rebuilt last year and the retainer spring flew somewhere into my front lawn. They still sell the part but only as part of a set with the pin and little c-clip, and I don't want to shell out $20 for it.

Anybody have any ideas on what I can ...

Re: Could I use a bike brake cable?

I bought an OEM cable. Thanks for giving me a good dose of common sense here. I'd feel pretty bad if anyone got hurt riding a moped that I fixed and the cable snapped.

I looked at some bike cables in comparison to the original one I took off the spree and the bike cables seemed pretty flimsy. I ...

Could I use a bike brake cable?

My front brake cable on my 1986 spree is rusted to crap. I was wondering if I could get away with a pedal bike cable. Everyone I've asked thinks its a bad idea. They all think it will snap. I've looked at bike cables in comparison and they look to be around the same thickness (no idea on the tensile ...

Re: Oil leak

That pump looks pretty clean. If you can smell gas mixed with the oil then you might have a leak around the crankcase.

Re: Piston Damage

If it was that brittle in the first place who is gonna say it wouldn't have happened first thing when I fired up the engine again?

Could be a good thing it happened while it was out of the case.

Re: Piston Damage

I can honestly say I did the exact same thing you did. I was replacing an engine bearing and took that exact same chunk out of the piston. I have it all back together now and it all runs great, even with that chip out of the piston. However I'm not sure about the long run (I've only been riding it ...

Re: Spree won't throttle up!! HELP!!

Where exactly did you drill the hole in the exhaust? The muffler on that 2 stroke engine plays a pretty vital role as far as combustion goes. Not really a good idea to go drilling holes in it  .

Troubleshooting Noise On 86 Spree

The sound is coming from the right side of the engine (the side with the alternator and muffler). It's a small metallic ticking that varies with engine speed.

I think it may have something to do with how I have the muffler hooked up. I recently took it off and replaced the small metal ring with ...

86 spree, Slipping Belt? Slipping Clutch? Both!?

So I recently got this spree running and it runs great without a rider (on the kickstand with the back wheel off the ground). The back wheel engages perfectly without weight on the bike. However, when I step on, it's a crap shoot. Sometimes the bike won't get up to 15, other times the bike will make ...

Re: 86 Spree won't start after extensive repairs. Spark good.

Ok, I cleaned the carb, and replaced the fuel. Still no luck. I took off the cylinder head and cleaned off the carbon deposits, still no luck. Messed with both of the fuel adjustment screws (the air and gas ones on the carb), and still no luck. I'm running out of ideas here.

I tried jump starting ...

86 Spree won't start after extensive repairs. Spark good.

My dad recently stumbled across this 86 spree in a metal scrap dumpster behind where he works. He brought it home and I've been working on it. It had a bad engine bearing. I took it apart, cleaned all the metal out of the crankcase, and it back together, only it won't turn over. I have good ...
