Oops, sorry to confuse everyone. I'm not talking about the little c or e-clip but rather the thing shaped like a "W" that sits on top of it between the c-clip and the spring.

I took apart my throttle assembly on my '86 Spree that I rebuilt last year and the retainer spring flew somewhere into my front lawn. They still sell the part but only as part of a set with the pin and little c-clip, and I don't want to shell out $20 for it.

That pump looks pretty clean. If you can smell gas mixed with the oil then you might have a leak around the crankcase.

If it was that brittle in the first place who is gonna say it wouldn't have happened first thing when I fired up the engine again?

Where exactly did you drill the hole in the exhaust? The muffler on that 2 stroke engine plays a pretty vital role as far as combustion goes. Not really a good idea to go drilling holes in it .
