yeah, judging by reveiws on it and what wheelman said it seems to be more for smaller bores at 28mm. should be good for what im doing/planning on do in the future. plus, dam, its something to do. when i get more serious about it ill drop the money for a better pipe like a Pg, but this V8 doesnt seem bad at all.
UPS says its supposed to be here tommrrow. thats great for ordering it on monday.

alright, so just got my new pipe installed, the installation was a pain for what it was. centering the gasket and getting all the holes to line up at once was awkwark since the 2 12mm mounting bolts on the left side were just a tad off.
once i got it all lined up and torqued, all was good.
my 82 and 85 main jets have not arrived yet, so i borrowed the 80 main from my aero and after a couple short runs i decided that my plug was a little lighter than i wanted. not much, so i fugure an 82 should be pretty close to perfect for the stock bore with this pipe.

i didnt want to get the scooter too hot so i kept the revs down, i have 7g weights in the vari, per J Waynes recomendations.

the pipe really isnt too much louder than i remember stock being, but it deffinately sounds better. The bad thing is the rubber piece that comes in contact with the kickstand doesnt dampen the vibrations enough off of idle. the fix for that would probably be a sidestand, but that is in the back of my mind right now.

my results from my short little ride were awesome. it has a ton more pickup than stock, easily could pull up a wheelie at low speeds. i never tried to run it past 35, but i have a short stretch of street by my place that i can usually make it up to 25-30max before i have to slow down to turn, now i can easily make it to 35.

Greetings:

Congrats on the pipe score. I should have warned you about the installation issues, noted in Flash III Build Chronicles (I think...) and/or in Perf. Tech. The rubber stand bumper can be bent into the correct position if you have the strength of 111 ordinary Wheelmen and a good pair of Vice-Grips. The supplied gasket is composed of crushed and pressed eggshells, and will shatter like Tiger Woods' sponsorships if given so much as a hard look. I may have dropped mine prior to installation, but I sure didn't over-torque it. Still it failed during a WOT run; a piece blew right out from between the pipe and the exhaust port flange. Find some proper copper sheet and carve your own if/when that happens.

That's it for the kvetches. The performance is nice, isn't it? If you have a stock airbox, try it with 6es and an 85 jet before you decide to move down to that 82. Consider an 88 if you run a Pod. But you'd better get your hearing checked if you think it's not much louder than the stock muff. :)

ok ill get to bending that rubber absorber. now that i just rode my aero for some christmas present shopping, it IS quite a bit louder... which isnt a bad thing. the V8 gets way louder upon acceleration than the stock pipe. ill try the 85 jet first, thanks for your advice.

my next question is on a pod filter. i notice you have that uni filter, i read somewhere (maybe reading flashIII build chronicles), that the opening inner diameter for a clamp on filter is 1.75". is that correct? it may be a while before i upgrade filters, but im curious. oh, and about your pod filter in wet conditions... i dont ride in downpour, but over here in portland oregon it sprinkles most days and the assphalt is wet more often than not. would a UNI work for me or is it mainly for dry riding?

Greetings:

The stock carb takes the 1" UNI or K&N. The bellmouth diameter is officially 27mm, but a one-inch will fit over. Just be sure to wipe off all traces of oil on both surfaces with a solvent-soaked rag.

I've never ridden the UNI in pouring rain, so I don't know for sure. I have ridden on wet sloppy roads quite frequently without issues. I suspect that the filter is protected enough by the panels and the belt case that at least some of its surface will be dry enough for the engine to draw from. The worst that can happen is that your mixture will go rich.

another topic, has anyone proven that the stock ruckus vari can actually give a larger gear ratio than a typical performance variator such as a keli? i realize there is some case grinding to be done, but can it yeild a couple extra mph?

that's silly in the ruck world we use tons of parts from 2 stroke honda motors and apparently you guys use some stuff from our overengineered pos 4 stroke motor.

neat!

Just curious besides the motors, what 2stroke parts do the Ruckus guys use?

Greetings:

In posts and PMs, the Esteemed Scooterwerx expressed great affinity for his castoff stock Ruckus variator. For sure its greater diameter holds the promise of an upgear effect, presuming the rollers are sized correctly. Of course the engine must have the power to drive that taller gearing.

alright. well unfortunately im still waiting on my jets so i am not any closer in the exhuast battle. and im leaving town tommrrow for a week so this will be put on hold... rode my aero to work today and realized how much i miss riding that thing. it is making having my elite out of commission bearable.
one thing i noticed on my aero is how light the throttle action is. the twist grip i mean is way lighter than my elite. is that typical?

update: got everything taken apart and am STILL waiting on my jets from honda.

i punched out the second tab in my airbox inlet. the second tab had a slit in it, maybe a quarter of the way punched out, so i popped it out the rest of the way like the other inlet, that should give me more air.

dismantled the carb and cleaned it well, #78 mian jet out, waiting for my 82 and 85. got the seven Gr, rollers in the vari the other day, all i need is my jets....

still waiting on my jets. i can just assume the holidays wrecked all the shipping areas, but i did get to running my aero. i have the stock vari on it because i put my keli on my elite, with 9 gram rollers with the exhaust coming pre drilled when i bought it today i got it up to 43.1 mph by my garmin nuvi GPS. going on a slight downhill with no wind. pretty good, i want to get annother vari for it though because im sure i could get it up to 45 when it had the keli in it. still want kickstart for the aero

so i finally got my jets and other parts. i assembled everything with the 85 main jet and it lives! i cant really ride it because there is too much snow here now. the snow is suppossed to be melted in the next couple days. it seems to be more responsive to my throttle when i rip on it. plug is pretty brown, not oily, just dark. which is good because i plan on maybe doing a more free flow air intake. i will post results when i can safely ride my scooter, let alone drive my car.
