So motor was oil-locked too huh? May need oil pump but i wouldn't worry about that yet, Might be small leak and a year would cause case to fill up. You can have my kicker case. I'll email you.

Got another question, I noticed when I took off the carburetor that the filter was shot. I have a K&N style filter I can replace it with. What do you think?

K&N

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Many poo-pooh the K&Ns. I ran one and found it indistinguishable from the UNI Pod variety. They are heavy and that can be an issue on spigot-mount carbs, but the performance is no different. :imo: Be careful tightening up those 8mm hex bolts on the carb flange, too. If they're stripped out - a common problem - re-tap the carb flange's threaded holes with 1/4", or Heli-coil.

You will need to jet up considerably from the size that suited a stock airbox - perhaps up to 90 or more with a stock everything-else. Be sure to saturate the cotton mesh as K&N recommends with their red oil.

I'll give it a try but, If I have to rejet (I know nothing about) I'll just buy the replacement filter. This is a K&N Style not an actual K&N flange is too big for it but I thought I'd just buy a cheap funnel and sacrifice it to fitting this filter.

Greetings:

K&N makes a 1" size that will glom over the carb mouth. So does UNI. If you can remove a carb for cleaning, and operate a flat screwdriver, you can replace a main jet. Stock box is fine for stock block, but may limit a modded engine.

I don't think it is modded this bike looks all stock. I just have not looked into "how to" rejet a carb yet. It may need replacement parts anyway as the float is cracked im epoxy the float now.

for getting it running initally, i would just buy a stock honda filter element. that way you dont have to mess with jets yet. that is somethiing you will do after its running well and you want to modify it. im sure with a clean carb and a charged bat. you will get it to start.

d***, another failure I put the carb on after cleaning it and tried to start it. It wasn't even giving a hint of firing so i put my hand over the carb to choke it. Then the starter began to grind. :*: It must not be aligned properly AGAIN!!! I guess this kick cover is done! I guess I should wait for evilone to send the cover before I really screw it up :|

Found the problem. Nut on the crank came loose making the pulley too far away for the starter to connect :woot:
