Almost there!

Post by gulfstorm »

Hey everyone,

I posted earlier about getting my spree and I finally have it in my garage. Just thought I'd share what I am doing to get this bike working and see if anyone has any other suggestions. First thing is first. I drained the oil and took the carb off. Cleaned it (very helpfull posts under the technical part of the forum). Carb back together and back on the bike. I didnt drain the fuel tank as no fuel came out when I disconnected the red fuel lines. I am guessing that I will leave it as fuel in there is only a year old. Or should i fill it up? I am guessing its the valve by the fuel tank that has to come off. Now the bike came without the ingnition coil and spark plug connector. So i ordered one from e-bay and waiting for that to come. What else? Hmm. just a bit of a clean up I guess. Also had a question regarding 2 stroke oil. Can i just pour in the 2 stroke oil or does it have to be diluted? And finally what is the best way to bleed the oil through the oil pump?

Thanks a lot for reading and any responses, sugesstions are appreciated.

Cheers,

Gulfstorm.

welcome gulfstorm,
1. clean your carb again, nobdoy and i mean nobody gets it completley clean the first time,(did mine like 5 times).
2. remove the fuel petcock and the old fuel will run out!
3. drain your trans oil, plug on back of case. left side if youre sitting on it. replace with 3 oz of 10W-30
4. 2 stroke oil, get a good quailty oil that is injection approved,(local motorsports should have it)
5. make sure you get the manual from the tech spot and grease all the point suggested.
6 while your at the petcock go ahead and get you a small cone shape filter and put in the fuel line and when you take off petcock pull out the strainer and make sure it clean.
7 oil pump, i added a little oil to my fuel while i waited for the air to bleed out of the system(just left it run til oil seeps out and no air bubbles) follow the instructions in the manual.
8 get an air filter if you dont have one you will need it.

Just pour it into the plastic tank.

Apply negative pressure to the line coming off the bottom of the petcock. That will open the valve and let fuel flow through the upper hose. Be sure to have a catch container ready for the old fuel.

While you have the oil tank empty, be sure the strainer is clean

Thanks for the tips elite members! I completely forgot about the trans oil! Yeah carb cleaning is a must for sure. But 5 times....really? when i took mine off. it didnt look too bad inside. But we ll see. might do it again. I CANT WAIT TO START IT!!!! just a few weeks away now hopefully. Actually I have a funny feeling it wont start judging by the problems encountered by a lot of members on this forum.
Oh, does the carb have to be adjusted (two screws on the lateral side,....idle and another one? :)

top one should be 1 1/2 - 2 turns out and the bottom about 2 and check from there. and yes it took me 5 times to get mine all clean but mine set alot longer then a year. mine sat atleast 10years in a shed before i rescued it from a fate of rust and malnourishment.! LOL
