I'm not sure if the smallest guitar string will fit in the hole in fuel bowl as well as pilot jet. If not i think i used a needle to dislodge some gunk. Make sure you check it in dark room with flashlight.

Greetings:

That wire is going through your main jet. You can unscrew it with a flat screwdriver - make sure not to force a tapered one against the cast aluminum walls of the tower. Get one that's the same diameter as the screwdriver head. Then remove the jet and push the emulsion tube out from the topside of the carb with a matchstick or other non-metallic pushing instrument. Clean all that by soaking in solvent - preferably acetone, MEK or commercial carb dip.

The pilot circuit is the smaller brass standpipe below the main jet tower in your pic. That hole is likely even smaller than your "E" guitar string. It's also the culprit for many, many idle and throttle-refusal issues.

It only works when you stick in in the right hole

I found chopsticks from local chinese take-out works great for pushing out the e-tube after removing the main jet.

Do yourself a favor and remove that black o-ring gasket around the base of the carb as well as the float and needle and soak the entire carb in acetone overnight.

I have never had that method fail to clean up the most fouled up carb and it beats having to take the carb off seventeen times.

Ok, so I removed the jet and cleaned the living * out of it. Acceleration is awesome and improved. :coolcruise: Still very hard to start I have to place my hand over the carb to make it start. :*: Still does not idle. Runs awesome :coolcruise: just starting and idle. I tried to adjust the idle it makes no difference when I turn the screws. :*: Please Help!!!

Greetings:

You're very close. Do as Nacree suggests, but make the soak 2-3 days with vigorous agitation every time you walk by. The have a close look at the Pilot hole over the second, smaller brass standpipe. That and/or the bystarter mini-jet are likely still clogged.

Nice job fixing your kickstart! If you can fix that you can unclog your carb. Patience.

Pilot Error

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Legend has it that certain Carburetor gods  have successfully removed the pressed-in brass Pilot standpipe. Mere mortals would be unwise to attempt it, as special tools are required to hold the pipe without crushing it. The "Jet" for the pilot circuit of the tiny PA carb is actually cast into the carb body and cannot be removed. The same goes for the float needle seat, despite Service Manual instructions to "...always replace the needle and seat 'as a set'."

Cleaning this pilot hole with a metal probe requires discretion, as its size is critical to idle performance with the stock airbox setup. I used a single bristle plucked from a steel brush held in a hemostat to scrape around the sides. (need really good near visioin or magnifier...) The thin diameter and flexibility of the bristle prevented gouging and scoring that pinhole. There's a thread somewhere showing the Legendary Pinhole. You can be sure Wheelman didn't take that excellent close-up pic.
