Snagged a tidy 87 Spree for $250.

The place to discuss rides, accessories, or whatever is tangentially Spree/Elite-related

Snagged a tidy 87 Spree for $250.

Post by bjih_86 »

Lack of interest at work led me to check CL for scoots. Found a Red 87 Spree in good condition for $250. :werd:

Only a few scratches on the plastic, tiny tear in the seat cover and "apparently" only 432 miles. What is the likely hood that someone has already gone "around the clock". It was an older guy that only drove it around his property.

The only major peeve is the lights on the 87 are those finicky plastic things that crack off at the caddy and the rear tail-light. Are these cheap enough to replace, or better still - is it possible to put those stronger '86 lights on the '87.

The thing was out of gas so I couldn't start it up. But i wasnt too concerned, the gas tank was clean and the compression seemed good.

Ill give her a clean up and post photos.

Advice welcome.

Congrats on the "new" Spree.

To answer you question about the turn signals, yes you can adapt the 84-86 turn signals to your 87. But in order to do so properly, you will need to remove your glovebox with integrated turn signals. Then you will need to drill one extra hole on each side of the leg shield in order to mount the earlier model turn signals. If drilling is out of the question for you, then you can use the 84-86 legshield and everything will be a bolt on affair.

Make sure you clean out the carb and petcock before you try to restart. Also wouldn't be a bad idea to clean out the fuel and oil strainers. Replacing the oil in the tank would also be a wise investment. Honda GN2 is my favorite. Check the air filter and spark plugs too.
