taz's gears, need help

Post by portets »

so i got taz's gears a few months ago and finally decided to put them on because it getting close to riding weather. :coolcruise:

i got everything apart and put the bigger gear in, but i can't get the smaller gear out. (sorry, i'm new to this, don't know any technical names).
so i mean, i got the larger gear in, the one that connects to the rear wheel. but i can't get the other gear out, the one that spins the bigger gear that is attached to the rear wheel.
if you need pictures i might be able to get a couple, but does anyone know what to do? i thought it would just slide out of the ball bearing in the cover, so i hit it a few times with the rubber mallet and nothing happened.

yes use a rubber mallet and tap litghly so you dont damage the oil seal and bearing but it will come out.

Funny, they're not usually stuck like that. How does the manual tell one to remove these?

Try rapping it out with a steel hammer while holding it in your hand.

thanks for the help guys. i got it out. actually had to hammer it pretty hard...

so now i got it back together, but don't have the bbk in yet. it didn't slow down the lowend that much.
i get a little more noticeable kick at around 5-10 mph, don't have a gps to test top speed though.

another thing, i get a kind of metallic spinning/very mild grinding-type sound now. is this bad?
i made sure to install any washers that came out..

are you washers in the right spot? i did the same and had a washer in the wrong spot and it made that sound. and the rear wheel didnt spin that well.

Coule also be a bearing sound. Not nessisarily a horrible bearing sound.
