I have an 85 Aero 50. When I'm moving the turn signals are blinking and functioning just fine, when I stop the turn signals stay steady on and don't blink.
The battery isn't very old, only about 7 months.
Anyone know what to do? Do I need a new blinker relay?
There was one other post about this with an 86 Spree (here:http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... 87#p107087), but no one ever posted a for sure answer and the thread is older, so I didn't know if I would still get a response. Sorry for the repost.

Sounds like a dead battery.
Have you tried charging it?
Even though there is a alternator on the scooter you still have to charge the battery.
A easy way to check if it's the battery causing the issue or not is to use the horn at idle and at top speed.
If it only works ok at top speed and barely works at idle it's your battery.

I'd rather be riding my Aero!

Definitely should check/charge the battery. I run my Spree w/ no battery and thats exactly how the blinkers behave.
Obviously the best option is to keep the battery charged but one trick you can do is give a little throttle when stopped, just enough to run the blinkers but not take off. That way you can keep the blinkers going when stopped for safety reasons.

along with everything else said, make sure the wires to the battery have a good connection with it. my battery is all fine and dandy, but 95% of the time there isnt a proper connection, and i get the same problem. most of the time i have to raise the seat and make sure they're touching in order for the starter to work

Sorry it took me so long to respond, my Ohm-meter needed a new battery. How ironic.
But I checked the battery level and while the moped is off it's steady around 12v. While idling and running the blinker it creeps down to 10-11v but that's about it.
So the battery seems pretty normal, I'm thinking maybe I should try replacing the blinker relay.
Any thoughts other thoughts anybody?

If you are up for some more testing:LocoParaHonda wrote:But I checked the battery level and while the moped is off it's steady around 12v. While idling and running the blinker it creeps down to 10-11v but that's about it.

1) How well does your electric start crank? I recall you added a kick start to that '85 Aero, don't know if the electric starter gets used any more...
2) Lead acid battery voltage needs the decimal point. A fully charged battery is around 13.2 v. If you are measuring is close to 12.0, then the battery needs charging. 3) It's been awhile since I've measured a flasher relay, but recall that *not* flashing at 10 or so volts is what a good one does.
4) If you scooter has been sitting, or your charge circuit is not working as it should, 7 months is long enough for a good battery to self discharge quite a bit. Quick check on the charge system - start and rev up. Battery voltage should be well over 13.8v, more like 14.2 or more.

You were all right. It was the battery. I had just assumed since it was called a 12 volt battery that 12v was what the ideal voltage was. I didn't know it should be more like 14v. I set it up on the trickle charger for most of the day today till it read 14v and now everything works fine.
My starter is working like a charm too, half the reason I added a kick start was because I thought the starter was going out. In a way I'm glad I didn't get the information till now, it gave me incentive to install the kick start.
Now I know! Thanks mousewheels and everybody else.

check all the battery and charging system connections for corrosion too; this will limit the amount that the battery is able to charge from the alternator, and the voltage that it provides.
