Securing your scoot: What's the best method / lock?

I'm not looking to spend $90-$150 on the best Kryptonite lock on the market. That's a bit steep for my budget. I need 1-2 locks / chains / cables that will do their job. I would like a lock that will prevent someone from walking up with cable cutters and taking my Scoot in 2 snips.

buy an alarm and good lock that doesnt use bic pen cap.

Lock rear wheel to a pole or bike rack.

thats what ive got...you can cut through it, but it'd take a good bit of effort.

Anyway, I live or travel in an area that is known for theft. I'm 8 miles from Gary, IN - yay!

The lock is acutally from Kolkata, India and is made of brass and aluminium.

It protects the Jagannath temple, an Hindu temple at Puri in the eastern Indian state of Orissa.
The lock has three 14.5-inch keys

Totally impractical, I know... but when I go out to ride, that's all I do. Scooter theft is waay out of control here in KY; and since I work at a scooter shop, I am usually the one to do all the repairs on the theft-recoveries. The lucky ones get recovered, and even then, it's such a sad sight to see a scoot that has been literally torn-apart in a theft. -Thieves trash the poor scooter getting stolen.
I will take the motorcycle or car if I plan on going into a store. I try to gas-up before leaving, but if I am low, I pull to the front of the gas station, run in and pay, then go out and push scoot to the pump.

Just my 2 cents, but it is the safest way to avoid a sad situation.

the economy sucks right now... car, boat, airplane, every kind of theft is going up...

no, not the prepubescent butterflies... the big yellow backhoes. people are going to construction/road work sites and stealing them.

I work on the south side of Chicago. In less then a month, in the block / area I frequent, there were 3 murders and 1 baby found dead in a trash can. Gary isn't this bad - anymore. However, Gary used to be murder capital USA and has had quite a history for violence, crime, corruption, etc... The last police officer from Gary that I saw had 4 visible guns. When we pointed this out, the officer said "These are throw aways... and these are the ones you can see." He wouldn't tell us how many he carried.

I have many fond memories of Gary, IN.
Regardless, security is an issue.

Many years ago, before Noah's Ark, I crossed over at Del Rio into Ciadad Acuna. Young Mexican boy offered to watch my car and would polish it for 50 cents (before inflation). I questioned it, but my friend said, "Pay it, if you want your hub caps, mirrors and wheels when we get back". So I did. Came back, car was shining like new money. I tipped him another 50 cents. Moral of the story: Only security in Mexico is don't abandon it. Or pay the boy!

see I do the same thing z50r-blank does. but the trick is you gotta catch that lil turd that steals you scooter. then decorate your scooter with the thefts body parts. since then no one has wanted to touch my scooter.

My scoot has a dead battery, so an alarm is out of the picture. Don't think I'll have an ignition by next week, which is when I hope to be riding it.

Same for NYC.
Walmart used to sell a really good chain for $15-20. I don't know if they still sell it (bought in '07) but it is what I put on the Ultra at sturgis and had no problems. It had a material slip cover with rivets to keep it in place. Look in the home improvement area with the rest of the padlocks. I think it was made by Brinks.
