how to make my town riding crotchrocket more hwy friendly?
i got a PURPLE 97 Elite S with:
68cc aluminum Malossi MHR replica BORE
9:1 gearing
28mm OKO carb
PhonGeer V8 Exhaust
im pretty sure everything else is stock
LEMME JUST SAY...... my bike is SMOKIN FAST in town driving.
its impossible to drive slow because i top out in about 3-4 seconds.
top speed is atleast 45mph... and not any more than 50 mph
the only chance i got to clock it was with the speeding radars the cops use to show how fast u driving. only now realized that radar only goes to 45mph
anyways i come to u moped goddess on my knees and begging for your guy's wissdom and knowledge
I WANT TO MAKE MY BIKE HIGHWAY FRIENDLY yet still have alot of the acceleration i already have.
a friend reccomended possibly changing my gears.
60-65 mph is my goal.
i tried my friends SYM with his 72cc MALOSSI cast-iron bore and 7.2 gears with a V8 exhaust and its a TOTALLY DIFFERENT BEAST.
i challenge anyone with a 72cc setup to TRY and beat me off the line..... ill own ANYBODY up untill 35mph
would 8.4 gearing be the answer for acheiving 60-65mph
i got pictures of it..... gimmie a day or two to put em up on here.
Much Mahalo my bada's in advance

So how does your friend's bike compare in acceleration and top end? I've go the cast iron Malossi too, with 9:1 gears.
It seems you've got plenty of power. Get the Polini 7:1 primary gears (16/32 teeth) and you should easily reach your goal.

Greetings:
And welcome.
You can't have everything, the old saying goes. 8.4 gears (and sufficient power to push them) are more than enough for 65. However they do take away 1st gear to some degree. A larger ZX rear pulley gives it back. Adding a larger Ruckus variator and a 669 belt to the ZX rear adds 5th gear.
Maybe you can have everything?

Is the 669 belt size bigger than a normal ZX belt?

Greetings:
Stock ZX is 654 according to a post in the ZX Trans thread. I have not confirmed firsthand. My current ZX belt is a 669 and it rides near the rim of the rear pulley. I believe a larger front pulley is mandatory p run one, otherwise the long belt won't spread the rear pulleys very far, killing top end speed.

Re: how to make my town riding crotchrocket more hwy friendly?
sanjuro, my friends sym i was talking about "supposedly" does 72mph. i only rode it up my little hill so i never topped his out. i dont doubt it though
its a totally different ride!!!! DEFINATLY NOT FOR ME!!!!!!
i live kona so its mostly stop and go traffic in town which is perfect for my scooter setup
its when i go on the highway i get the feeling i gon fry my bore because it revs so hard...
GHETTO SOLUTION: i accelerate to 45 then deaccelerate to 30 then accelerate back to 45mph, over and over again until destination is reached. ITS KINDA ANNOYING
wheelman, u said it best i guess. u cant have both.
I THINK IM GONNA KEEP IT THE WAY IT IS.
would a mini stroker maybe add 5-10mph top-end without sacrificing acceleration?
friends tell me that my setup on the bike is just begging for the mini stroker.
will a mini stroker make any noticable difference at all?
a store in town get da mini stroker for $210.... (not including installation) is that decent price? (remember i live in hawaii so EVERYTHING costs more) and I know vtcycles probaly get it for a little bit cheaper but ill pay the extra $50 to be able to get it locally. (convenient)
also how do u put pictures on my profile?????
btw THIS FORUM IS THE SH*T!!!!!
to bad its SO d*** HARD to find this website on google
RITE ON GUYS

Gotta change gears. If your worried about revving out your bore and blowing it up, it would probably be worse with a ministroker. What trans are you running? What's in it? When I had a heavy center spring my bike would go from 0 to 15 as soon as you hit the gas.
Bust out those pics, where'd you get that bike from? And who's SYM is that? All the boys are getting out of peds and I usually cruise solo. I got 6.9:1 gears and do 65+ on Queen K. Can go 45-50 up Palani, 45 up Costco but I gotta cruise a couple times to cool down.
Oh yeah, Troy is a rip off. You can grab a ministroker from Oahu for way cheaper, I've gotten a few for my friends.

In 2040 they say we're going away
We could never let them control
Hawaiian man, take back your hawaiian land

Re: how to make my town riding crotchrocket more hwy friendly?
Going 70 mph+ can't be fun for long distances on such small tires. I'd be happy with easy 60-65 mph cruising.
...and post a pic of your bike man.

Greetings:
I paid just over $100 for my mini-stroker crank from ScootSpecs, IIRC. Maybe Burnt_Toast has/can get some? $200 sounds awful high unless it's one-ta-them-thar exotic Teflon-stuffed jobs. The increase in low-end absolutely offsets the taller 8.4 gears and then some.

I haven't seen a Polini available for the Dio, and Malossi makes one, but it is a full counterweight crankshaft that will 'stuff' the case. The Malossi is the standard stroke.
I'd get something from vtcycles if you're looking for the mini-stroke crank.

ok im no mechanic but wouldnt 7:1 gears take away all of the ZIP (acceleration) that i lovesanjuro wrote: Get the Polini 7:1 primary gears (16/32 teeth) and you should easily reach your goal.
7.2 gears with a malossi cast iron on my friends SYM and was way too slow off the line for me
7.1 would give me even less low end then 7.2 right
I BET THE TOP SPEED WOULD BE CRAZY though
I only wanna go 60mph, anymore than that and i should start digging my grave......LOL
what is the next step down from 9:1 gears
8.9?????
