if you have the non resistor cap you can run the b8hs plug.

Re: Dreams of loSthoPe
OK picked up a 140 and a 145 main. the next size my local shop had was a 160. With the needle still all the way up(clip all the way down) i put the 140 in never went above 1/2 throttle. Bike seemed to run the same maybe a bit better hard to tell.(Bike doesnt seem to run bad anyway) I put in the 145 and same thing maybe a little better hard to tell. My thinking is im going to up the main until my midrange runs crappy then i can clean up the midrange by lowering the needle? suggestions?
Re: Dreams of loSthoPe
Today i checked the float. it was a little off so i adjusted it. I took the 145 main out and put in a 150. Didnt really seem to make a difference but i never went over half throttle. so i put in a 160 and same thing.
My pilot seems ok if not a little big. if i turn the air screw to 3/4 a turn out i can get the bike to four stroke. cleans up when i run it 1.5-1.75 turns out. so i think its good.
My needle is raised all the way up(clip all the way down). Bike seems to run good though i have only put a couple miles on it. As stated before i kept raising the needle as the bike ran better everytime i raised it. so thats how it got to the point it is now. raised all the way up. the main doesnt seem to have any effect on the throttle range im trying to richen. the carb has a jjh needle in it is that the right needle?
Help wanted and appreciated thanks

Re: Dreams of loSthoPe
You have probably figuring it out, but at half throttle your mixture is controlled a fair amount by the main jet. Yeah I know they say 3/4 to full is main but before you fine tune the needle you should get the top end sorted pretty close.
A critical read of Wheelmans posts on his quest to jet up his creations show some of the detail. Many of us have been through it some are better at documenting than others. Many riders on this list have made their bikes into something that they were not designed.
Be careful of changing float level. It will change the mixture.
Good build.

Re: Dreams of loSthoPe
The jjh needle is pretty close if not right there.with the right jetting the clip should be a 1 above middle.if you have other needles.try them out. you have to try and get to 3/4 throttle at lease to know if the main is there or not.a half throttle the needle is masking your main jet changes.losthope wrote:Today i checked the float. it was a little off so i adjusted it. Re: Dreams of loSthoPe
check for ehaust leak and intake leak too.sometimes these don't show signs till after the bike warms up or get hot.I lean more toward looking for a exhaust leak first. Also check the vacuum hose to see if it comes loose after the bike warms up.I had a issue like that when the bike warmed up the hose got soft and got a little loose so air was being sucked in from there.

Actually at 1/2 throttle the main jet and the needle control fuel flow. By 3/4 the needle is out of the jet and the main jet then controls.elitedio wrote:You have probably figuring it out, but at half throttle your mixture is controlled a fair amount by the main jet. I agree, don't be screwing around with the float level. Have as many constants as you can when tuning.
Another thing to watch out for is changing more than 1 thing at a time. One change could help but the other change could cover up the good change and that's not good tuning practice.

the only reason i adjusted the float was cause it was out of spec.Bear45-70 wrote:Actually at 1/2 throttle the main jet and the needle control fuel flow. Re: Dreams of loSthoPe
So i pressure tested motor again. holds 6 psi. so no air leaks. exhaust didnt look like it was leaking either. i had lean problems with the stock motor as well last year. http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... f=3&t=9366
so with the new setup i seem to be having the same problem. So what about the petcock? dirty not flowing enough fuel? When i suck on the signal line for the petcock i get a steady stream of fuel flowing. im supplying vacume to the petcock from the nipple on the ct manifold and i have the nipple on top of the carb plugged is this correct?
If you took a good running bike and raised the needle all the up wouldnt start to run like s***? Do i really need to move to a richer needle? I havent gone WOT with it yet as ive only driven it a few miles. but from further reading i understand that the main is going to have no effect on 1/4-1/2 throttle.

Re: Dreams of loSthoPe
If it were me jetting i would go too rich (till it 4 strokes) on the main jet at full throttle and lean it down a bit at a time to get it to run good. Leaner will make it run good but then you may well overheat it. Then go back and play with the jet needle.

Re: Dreams of loSthoPe
So i added some weight to the variator from 39grams to 45 grams. And i think some of my problem was i was turning too much rpm. Just cruising 30-35mph at 1/4-1/2 throttle the bike was really turning some rpms. the new weight dropped the rpms at cruising/part throttle riding. I will revisit trans tuning after i get more miles on this bike this is good for now. I will oil my airfilter like evilone suggests and I will install my tachometer. also have a CHT gauge on the way. Thanks for the help i know its not easy troubleshooting something from reading someones words.
