1985 Spree DeLuxe 265miles (I beleive it too)
1) Soaked and cleaned carb and can see light through all holes. Air and carb fluid runs through just fine. No leaks from gaskets. Air adjust at 1.5 turn out. Throttle has to be at 1 turn out. Disabled bystarter so it is down (no choke) all the time).
2) New plugs, nice blue spark - tried two spark plugs.
3) Pulled muffler - no apparent blockage but seems to have some back pressure when blowing in it.
4) Checked the exhaust port and there is no carbon build up.
5) Compression is 120 lbs after a few seconds of electric crank
6) Clean tank, new gas, gas flows freely when lsucking in on vacuum hose
7) Inspected oil pump and is nt jambed. cable rotates freely.

So here is the deal. It will start. Won't idle unless you give it a little gas. It revs up slowly and reluctantly and not real high.
If I put in the foam air cleanng element it will still start and run as above. But when I snap down the aircleaner top and cover the screw hole with my finger, it will bog and die. Heck even removing your finger from the screw hole helps keep it alive just a little bit more. The key is the Aircleaner top. With or without the foam element in it.
Obviously it is running best case rich and super rich and dies whith the cover on! But what the heck is it. I am betting the muffler but don't wan to buy one to find out!
I have never seen the thing run and the lady said it worked fine ten years ago when she parked the machine. The carb was so bad I had to drill out some passages to get them cleaned out! No I did not drill through the main jet, the air jet or any machined specific orifices.
Soooooo?
