New member with some questions

Post by bharv001 »

Im looking to buy a 50cc scooter just as a little fun thing to mess around on. I want 50cc because then I don't need a motorcycle license or insurance or anything like that. anyways some of the roads around my house or to friends houses are 45 mph. basically I am in search of a scooter that can do 45 mph as cheaply as possible. I can find sprees pretty easily around here for cheap but I think the only way they would go fast enough would be with a motor swap. I would like to do a bbk and change up the gears along with a good porting. I think it would make a fun project.

my number one option right now is a 1987 se50 elite that is for sale for $150. Ill see what i can talk her down.
here is the description..
"1987 Honda Elite SE50 Scooter. It ran last year but I cannot get it started this year so I am selling it as is. It has scratches, tears and well you can see from the pictures. I was a lot of fun for the grand kids when it was running. The ignition switch, battery and front turn signals are gone. I jumped it today and the starter worked. I have a clean title for it but the tab are expired. You can drive this one on the road without a motorcycle endorsement. Comes with a service manual. First one with $150 cash takes it away"

any comments or suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,
Bryan

$150 for the scooter
$150 for parts
Many Hours of your time fixing
$500 Total

Hours of wind in your face fun: Priceless

It all really depends on what price is right for you. Where are you located?

Sure sounds like the grand kids trashed it. It's not just external damage you have to worry about, but also internal given the age, miles, and children forgetting to put oil in it from time to time. You're looking at $250-300 in parts, repair, paint, time, etc. You may as well spend $400-500 on something that's in better condition and allows you to ride straight off.

$50-$75. No more.

I just sold a '99 SA50P for $100. No plastics. All it needed was an airbox with an eventual rebuild (5k miles). You'd be better off finding a deal like that.

Special thanks to:

Evilone for buying my SA50P.

Greetings:

That's underpriced if it runs at all. Even if it doesn't, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It is the restricted model (=30 MPH as delivered) but can be made to go 45+ with a very few affordable/easy-to-do changes and under $100. Everyone knows the 2001s were the best year... :)

So the search continues...

the guy didn't have the title and he sounded pretty sketchy once I actually talked to him.
