anyone ever use these IRC tires? I did a google search and found these on sale for 14 bucks a piece. If I am calculating right, they come out to be about 2.8" tall which should be about right for a modest top speed increase without totally killing my power off the line.

here is the link, anyone used these tires and/or this place before?

sounds good, placed the order and should have a new pair of tires in a few days. Will be very interested in seeing how they do on the spree. Got to be better than the old cracking tires that are on it now.

I was eyeballing those for a while, but shipping to HI is about 2x the price of the tire. I really wanted to try that 80/90 size.

Ended up buying an IRC mb 510 at 2.75" wide. Threw that sucker on with no tools! Felt accomplished.

Can those be bought in a tube type tire?

they are listed as tubeless but I thought it was ok to use tubeless on a tube type rim long as you use a tube with it. Least that is what I read but haven't tried it yet. So guess I should ask that one since I have a pair of those tubeless design tires ordered :surprise:

Greetings:

Most tubeless M/C tires are imprinted with something like "For tube-type rim fit tube". What you should not do is mount a tire to a tube-type rim without a tube. The bead can break loose from the rim flange resulting in an instantaneous deflation, scuffed elbows and skidmarks in your tighty-whities.

so long as I use the tubes, a tubeless tire should be ok in my spree right? I could call and change the order but really liked the look of those tires and hard to argue with 13.99 each.

Greetings:

Frankly, other than bicycles, there may no longer be such a thing as a "Tube-type" tire today. All of them have a bead design that is compatible with mounting tubed or tubeless. No need to change the order. See previous post.

Yes, there is. :geekdance:
The difference lies more in the inner liner of the tire than in the bead design... tube type tires lack the airtight inner layer of rubber, and are instead a porous rubber that will seep air out slowly.
However, running tubes in tubeless tires will have no adverse effects.

well I ordered the IRC tires and they will be in monday. I will be sure to report back once I get them mounted to see how they do. It is nerdy but I have a radar that is set up near my house as a warning to drivers so I will be able to check speedo speed vs radar speed after the tire install to see what the outcome is.

got the tires in today and they look good! Got the front one mounted no problem but when I mounted the back one (even though I thought I was careful) I must have pinched the tube because it has a slow air leak. Of course it wouldn't be the front one which is very easy to just pull off and change. No it had to be the back one which is a pain to get on and off with all the stuff you have to take off. Now debating do I patch the tube and try again, get another tube and try it again or do I take it in and let the shop? I cosidered using the old tube but they are kinda dry rotted looking and I don't trust them. Sure as the world if I put an old one back in, it will start leaking in a matter of days and then I mount it a third time.

Put it on and inflate it. Wait until tomorrow to install on the bike. this way you don't have to take it off the bike again. and you know it works. :hi:

ok after a nice fish dinner, I got a second wind and went back out. Checked out the pinched tube and it was just a tiny pair of pinholes so I decided I would just break out the patch kit and put one on it. Gave it a few minutes to set up and then did the old bucket test to see if the patch held. No air bubbling so I decided what the heck and put it back in there. This time I was extra, extra careful about pinching the tube and after 15mins the tire pressure was the same. I went ahead and put it back on before dark and took a quick test ride. It definately sat up a bit higher but it has a rub somewhere do didn't really get a chance to test it speed wise. I will report back tomorrow after I get a chance to properly test out the tires and see how they perform. One thing I will say is they look much more motorcycle like than most scooter tires i've seen.

Got to test ride the scooter at lunch today with the new IRC tires and gotta say I am liking them :thumbwink:

I had a little rubbing issue last night when I did a real quick test run after mounting. Didn't have time to check it out last night so today did a close inspection and discovered two issues. One was the bead wasn't uniformly set around the rim. That was causing the tire to rub on the high spot. Second issue was the bead was seating too far out right at the valve stem causing the tire to flair out too much again causing a slight rub. To fix the low bead I just fully deflated the tire and pulled on the tire to manually get the bead out from under the rim. Then re-inflated and it was fixed.

The bulge around the valve stem was a bit trickier. Deflated the tube and squeezed the tire so I could see in there and saw the prob. THe tube was caught up on the edge of the tire. That caused the tube to not fill out the rim properly there resulting in the bulge. To fix it I just loosened the valve stem and pushed it down into the rim while pulling on the side of the tire and it popped right into place. Then aired up the tire and I was all set.

OK now to the performance report... top end went up from 28 to 31mph! Might not sound like much but remember the larger front tire makes it read low now so the real top speed is probably a bit higher. I have a radar near the house that shows your speed so I will drive by that tonight and check actual speed but bet it is around 33mph which is a nice boost from 28. Now the part that really suprises me is the new tires have no penalty off the line. Not sure on that one but guessing it is because they roll with alot less resistance than the old ones. Bike handles much, much better now too. A nice cheap upgrade at $14 per tire. :coolcruise:
