engine chatter above 25mph

The scooter is on the fritz. first off, I'll tell you what I'm working with. 2001 Honda Elite S. It haas been derestricted at the muffler, and the clutch, second air hole punched out, 82 Main Jet, oil zipptied open.. all of the sudden it decides that when it hits 25mph it will chatter, almost like some sort of grinding noise, but under 25 no issues. On the centerstand, if it is revved up and hits whatever rpm 25 mph is it it will chatter then too, I tried not to keep it revved for very long though. Any ideas are appreciated.

we have been discussing this in other threads. not so much the chattering but other things. your pump while ziptied open you will prolly need to add oil to your gas as the s pump still doesnt put enuff oil in. my S i put in an 85 jet. ok back to chattering. have you looked at the belt lately? its possible it is worn. think thats where i would look. could you describe the "chattering" a little more

I also had an atrocious grinding/chattering noise on my '01 from 25-35mph. It was strange in that those were the ONLY speeds it would make noise.

I've torn everything apart I could think of.....variator.....transmission gears....inspected bearings, etc.

Earlier this week I fully disassembled the clutch for a third time and was rolling the bearings on my fingers and noticed the inner-most (needle) bearing had a rough spot in it. I believe this was the cause of my cheesehead grief. Monday afternoon I ordered the ZX Trans kit from VTCycles and I'll keep you updated if this fixes my problem.

We both know how frustrating this is!

I have the same issue. It sounds more like vibration, but I've checked everything. It happens on the stand or off. 25mph seems to be the sweet the spot.

I'm so glad I am not the only one with this issue. I'll have to start running premix as well. IT sounds very much like added vibration in the 25-35 mph range though my scooter only tops out at 33 or 34 on the flats. It felt/sounded like it was coming from the clutch area though.
