I would suspect you have done some damage to your bore from being too lean. You need tio pull the jug (cylinder).

Too lean and melted the piston.

What do I need to do to fix it? Is any thing salvageable? It's it time to just learn to live at 41mm?

to answer your question.... get a different jug, piston is retired. make sure to split the case too.
