REPAIR SHOP MESSED UP MY SPREE. PLEASE HELP!!!

Post by kronoptimus »

so ive been driving my 86 spree for about a year now but a few weeks ago i went to start it up and it idled fine but with any throttle applied it just puttered out and died. so i brought it in to the only shop in my town that does work on older bikes and the said it was just a dirty carb and whatever . so they worked on it i payed my bills and on the ride home from the shop i realized it was bogging down at 23 mph and wouldn't go faster...period. then when i hit a downhill portion it refused to go any faster than 24 down a huge hill. oh and did i mention there was a gas line just in the basket of my scooter from my engine and that on the 2 mi. ride home i went through a full tank of gas....? well either way the shops had it for like a month now and are telling me that 23 is about right for the top speed on a NQ50, but ive been doing 30 on flat ground since i got it. so what do you guys think. whats your top mph on your spree and if your more mechanically inclined what does my problem sound like.

Sounds like the carb just needed a cleaning. But the extra fuel line and a full tank of gas in 2 miles :shock:. Loose fuel bowl drain screw? Is there any wetness around carb?

Take it back and tell them they didn't fix it. Oh and I would suspect your needle and seat are the problem. I hope the nitwits didn't put a bigger jet in it. My Spree does 30 indicated, stock '85, 27.9 mph on the GPS.

From the lack of knowledge you have shown with your past posts, it is more likely you have a good professional 2 stroke mechanic available that you pay good money to, to fix any issues you have. And it is no secret how I know this. Image

There is no challenge in bunking your post. You post as often as not contain gibberish or total BS.

Oh and I know my 2 stroke because I made a living working on them, plus I raced big 2 strokes and actually won too.

When I wanted to go fast I did it in this;

Image

With this on it.

Image

6 cylinder 100 CID making 175+ horsepower.

and for really fast, there was this.

Image

That may not look like fast but 132+ mph on the water is very fast.

Then of course I did these too.

Me too and my merc is rated 250 but still wont pass 85mph :evil:

:b2t: I didn't even know a tank could drain that fast, let alone have the engine process it. Shop screwed up, I've had Iowa Sprees that would only do 25mph or less but all of my standard sprees could reach upper 20s.

I had a problem a couple weeks ago that had the same symptoms, and by adjusting the position of the clip on the throttle cable it made it run 30 +, and also starting it was easy-er after making the adjustment.
