Are there any long lasting variators out there?

I am running a 80cc bore kit in my elite, my sliders in my variator wear out and eat my variator up in about 2 months if that, i tried different variators and different sliders.This is the sliders on the ramp plate not the rollers that wear out fast.I tryed a dry film lube on it seems to help a little.I dont like the plastic parts in the variator you think they would of come up with something better.I hate to get a high priced variator and not last any longer.The Prodigy variator last the longest.It $45.00 any one know of any good variators out there?Or is this something normal for having a 80cc bore?

Never had that issue. Are you buying quality rollers? like malossi or pollini?

I have not had a problem with the sliders on the ramp plate wearing out.

Post a pic of your wear issue. It sounds interesting.

Normally the both sheaves of the variator maintains firm contact with the belt and the stresses across the sliders/guides are minimal. I can think of a couple of situations where accelerated wear might occur.

1: If the belt is worn (<15mm for a stock pulley boss) the belt is slipping at idle, even after the real Clutch engages. The scooter won't start to move until RPM increases enough for the variator to begin uh... Variating. Thus the Variator itself acts as a second "clutch" and the forces imparted really squeeze those plastic inserts radially. They're not designed for this stress, might overheat because they're being pinched from the drive direction while moving along the ridges of the variator casting. Solution: Make sure the pulley boss and belt are matched dimensionally. Usually the simplest method is to purchase a new belt, but creative shimming can compensate for belt wear.

2: Wildly stiff clutch grab springs. These can create a situation where the variator actually begins moving before the clutch engages. Heavy forces are then applied with the scooter's CVT already in an "upgeared" position. Solutioin: Go back to stock or +1000 triplets and/or lighten the variator weights.

I would think that if the ramp guides are worn even a little, they need to be replaced as any slop will quickly become magnified with use.

I worked on a scooter that had badly worn variator , but it was because the plastic guides were not in place.

it depends. how old was the variator. is the clutch in good shape. oh you said different. so i guess you got osmething new. is the clutch in good shape? did you buy a cheapo belt. did you do a zx transmission swap. heh.

I realize this. I was thinking prehaps the rollers wearing causing a debris to wear on the slides.
This is why I asked the question.
