85 Aero 50 upgrades with a 87 Elite 50-S??

Post by LocoParaHonda »

I ride my Aero 50 which is in great shape now. I got it going by stealing parts off of an 87 Elite 50-S scrapper moped I have.

I've read several threads that mention the Elite 50-S having sportier/faster components. Does anyone know what might be superior on the Elite 50-S that I might want to swap for?
As a whole, the engine is missing too many things, so complete replacement would be tricky business.

A few things I've thought of:
clutch spring (better?)
joint oil/throttle cable and fuel line mount (would there be complications with this?)

If anyone knows of anything else please let me know.

I already thought of the gears, but I had the unfortunate luck to get one of the oddball 87 Elite 50-S's with 11 gears instead of 9.

As far as I can tell being a rider of both only the intake is different. 2 bolt vs 4 bolt reeds are different, I swapped my aero motor for an Elite obe and the only difference is now the aero goes 40 stock. up from 35.

Greetings:

The intake port issue isn't trivial. The SE design supports more flow than the SB reeds in the '85. Not sure that the more-efficient porting doesn't carry through to the transfers and boost, too. Scavenge the best parts of each to make one good one.

I've never cracked open the cylinder head before, but I'd be willing to check it out if it will be better. (opening up and examining my parts moped first of course)

Is there a good tech doc for this?

Also I think I have decided for sure to swap out the cool throttle on the Elite that automatically ads oil with the gas when you hit the throttle. I was just going to replace the throttle cable and the metal spigot thing where it connects to the engine. Would there be any need to swap out anything else?

I'm not sure how much that would help performance, but it seems like it would make a difference.
