It doesn't know but you need it to hold the starter pinion in place.tommy9345 wrote:How does it know if the kicker cover is in place. And It actually doesn't have a kcikstart, the belt cover doesnt have a kickstart lever joint. And theres 2 black wires, so whic one would I connect to the red to start it?

Ok, alittle soldering and 3 screws later, I got the ignition off. Idk what to do from here, can someone tell me how to hotwire it with these wires?
And where is the VIN number I need to get a key made? I contacted a locksmith and he said with some number he can make me a key. I cant find a number anywere on the ignition itself.
NO! don't do that or you will pop the fuse again or get a nice spark. The black and white stripe wire is the ignition shut off, if it is grounded, NO SPARK. God knows what you will blow in the CDI if you hit it with 12 volts (the red wire). So jumper the Red and the Black (NO STRIPE) wire together and all you electrics will work. My question is why did you unsolder the switch when all you hand to do was follow it to the 4 pin connector and unplug it. You are making this way harder than it is.

Because the shaft has to be supported at both ends or the gears will back away from each other.tommy9345 wrote:I dont understand, it moves around if the covers not on?

the cover needs to be on to line up the starter bendix correctlytommy9345 wrote:I dont understand, it moves around if the covers not on?
It will bind up without it.
Can you take a picture of your belt cover and the inside of your belt cover? I would help me help you know what parts you still need to do a kick starter

Traffic already said that. I was going by how you do it for a car.Bear45-70 wrote:toad772 wrote:Connect the 2 black wires then touch the red wire to those to run the starter. The green is ground so hook that up with the black wires.tommy9345 wrote:Thanks for the guide bear, ill print it out soon.

What color are those wires?
They could be rear blinker wires.

This is NOT a car. Forget cars. This thing has a CDI ignition, basicaly an electronic magneto.
If those wires are Green with a Yellow stripe and Yellow with a Red stripe, those are the wire to the starter solenoid.
If they are a Green and a Black wire, they are turn signal flasher wires.

Re: Just got a Spree for 5$, need help
To bear about unsoldering the ignition, I did it to first find out the VIN number on the ignition and to hotwire it, I thought itd be easier if I had all the wires out to work with. What are detailed instructions to grounding the wires and putting them together to start/have all electronics working? Would it be easier if I just soldered the ignition back in and drilled out the tumbler so I can start it with a flathead? Sorry Im asking so many questions, I'm a complete noob to these kinds of things.
And Ill get those pictures of the inside and out of the cover. Im over a friends right now.
