spree won't start

Post by veithouse »

I just purchased a spree that stopped running on the owner. After looking it over they had put regular oil in the 2 stroke oil. It wont start, do I need to replace the rings and piston? I have drained the tank cleaned the carb, put 2 stroke oil in. It has gas and spark.

I would ask for some of the money back to compensate for the repair.

I hope not, 300-400 bucks seems to be the going price for a running spree. I would take the jug off and have a look see, hope it isn't toast.

well if it turns over the piston should be fine.

Do a compression test, and if it's under 115psi get new rings. and if there are any scores on the cylinder you can either hone it, or if they're deep enough where your finger nail catches you'll need to punch it up to the next size. or get one of taz's 48mm BBK's and let it rip

Actually I purchased two. One was for parts(125.00 for both) I took off the second motor, added the starter motor and carb and stuck it on the first one. Low and behold it started. I am now riding it around. Honda mech is going to look at the piston and tell me if is any good. The speedo reads 69 miles!

That is totally wrong. It can turn over just fine and still not have enough compression to start.

I agree with the compression check, first and foremost.

i was saying like, if it was seized it wouldn't turn over, so if it turns over, do a compression check to see if you have at least 115 PSI

Couple things you can try. First, does it sound like it wants to start? Or is the piston just moving.
How old is the gas? If its old, start there. Dump it and try new fuel.

Then, I would try a little gas in the chamber, if it fires a little, then its might not have proper fuel management.

Next , if that gets no results, dump a little 2stroke oil in the chamber, if it fires a little then, you have bad compression.

One more thing, what color is the spark? Is it strong a and blue?

I just found out that the jug has some scratches in it. Need a good one. Does anyone have one for sale? Right now I own 5 good running sprees. 2 are mint , one red and one black, and a red one, a blue one and one I painted flat black we call darth vadar. It does about 43mph.The others top out at about 26mph. Any ideas to get them up to speed?
