Spree aftermarket gear

Post by Fraser4204 »

Hello, I was thinking of installing an aftermarket gear for my 86 spree. Going 31 flat ground just isnt cuttin it for me anymore. Im also looking for the most inexpensive option for increasing my speed. Can I install an aftermarket gear setup without a bbk? Also, does anyone know where I can purchase a gear setup.

Thanks you guys here are a huge help

a:How does your spree take off now?
b:How much do you weigh?
c:What size is your rear tire?

If your answers are

a:Pretty quick
b:under 180 lbs
c:2.50

Then yes add an aftermarket gear

If your answers are
a:Like a Turd
b:250+ lbs
c:3" or 80/90 or larger

Then I would advise against them until you get a BBK

My apree takes off pretty well. I have two 2.50 tires but I was told that a fatter tire will do nothing. a ten inch tire will still travel the the same revolutions wether how fat it is will not increase the speed. I need an alternatvive please.

Thank you, Jon

3-4 mile per hour. That's about what your going to get out of a Stock ENGINE with gears since there is not enough power to pull the gears. Just do the tires 80/90-10 for your 3-4 mph save your $$ then get a BBK 48mm and the gears.

Oh and BTW if you are going by what your Speedo says at 31 mph its more like 26 mph. My Elite E and my 4 Spree's are about the same off they read about 4mph fast at 26 mph (gps)
89 Honda Elite E 48cc bbk and gears all broken in... I get to 35 mph (gps) full out and Im 240 lbs. Need more speed

My 1985 Spree is not that bad. 30 mph on the speedometer equals 27.9 mph on the GPS and I am still on the original front tire. When I installed a 2.75X10 rear tire I still got 30 mph on the speedometer and only 28.4 mph on the GPS.

How is the tire bigger. From the rim to the outside?

A 2.50X10 is 2.5" taller than the rim.

A 2.75X10 is 2.75" taller than the rim.

A 3.00X10 is 3" taller than the rim.

So each time you step up in tire size the diameter gets bigger and the circumference is longer, making one rotation of the tire cover more ground.
