The AF05E variated motor, specificly the '85 Aero has a similar left cover to the Spree. I don't have a Spree engine available to test it on though.

didnt mean to start a war just someone has to live in the real world... plus its never gonna look like a stock spree motor when its done with its varatior poking its head out of the case with a new kicker cover that would have to be created to cover it so... (this is my opinion based on facts i have found take it or leave it just remember the word opinion)

It doesnt look out of place. It is still a honda pal stock kick starter. Nothing fancy. And as long opinion are not out of line no one in this form minds your opinion. We just love messin with our scooters and floating ideas around.

The aero kickstarter cover would not be wide enough for the variated pal crankshaft.

So a variator with a new side cover to make it fit? is that the idea? Would make sense if there is not enough room, make some. :thumbwink:

what would happen with the rear pulley wouldn't something have to change there as well?

i have a complete variated afo5e out of a dj1 and nothing even comes close to fitting you would have to machine the spree case to even fit the crank from the variated afo5e i think bear has it by takeing a 3d image of the variator and shinking it right down would b the way to go it may not have as much movement as other varis but some movement would be good i cant seem to find much at all in japan thats worth trying but ill keep looking i could just do a engine swap but i like to keep things with stock engines that go way harder than they are supposed to could put a af18e in it and b pulling wheeles every where but it just aint a spree any more its more like a spredio and in my **OPINION** that just aint cool anymore

So if the variator, new cover, new crank, and new rear pully end up costing more that a dio swap you would want to do that instead?

It is not that hard to do a dio or variated afo5e swap.

Dio's CAN be made to go fast and wheelie, but a stock 49cc af16e is not too crazy.

How many people in here have an actual dio engine that came off a dio??? Easy to tell with the breather male end by the starter for the fuel pump. Most people in here have an elite sr engine not the actual dio engine. Yes I know they are almost the same but most do not come off dios, they come off the elite s, sr's. I have an engine on my elite sr that is an actual dio(af18) engine. But I hear yahhh on the cover and crankshaft thing. It would be a pain in the * for most people to do. I am going to do one on my elite e regardless. I am still looking for a company to do the variater thing but it is very challenging. And as to matching up a variater that already exsist that a spree can use does not exsist. Trust me I have looked everywhere.

And yes if you do the elite s, sr swap it would not be a spree. I hear that 100%. You guys go everboard on the mods for the elite sr engine so we can do the same.

yes i would rather do the crank swap its more challenging than a motor swap ive got a variated afo5e if i wanted to do the swap a would have done it already thats my thoughts if someone else cant b bothered with the spree motor then go ahead do the swap me personally want to try to make my spree motor go as hard as it possible can if it pops i hav another spree motor to do if that pops then maybe ill do the afo5e swap but untill then the variated af05e is destined for a go kart for my boy

If this mod ends up requiring a crank swap, you might as well drop the project right now. The average Spree owner is not gonna go to that kind of expense and effort. If they were then they would be swapping in any one of the variated 50 cc motors would be as a better option.

As to the left cover issue. Take two covers and cut them not in half, but 1/4 off the inside and i/4 off the outside (or whatever combination it takes) and weld them together, then you have all the space in the world.

The challenge is to make a variator for the Spree that will either fit under the present cover or at least no more than cutting out sections of the present cover like many already do with other engines.

It is not that no one wants a challenge, It just makes no bussiness sense.

The variator for the spree will require a different crank, kicker cover, and Rear pulley.

It will require more $$ and time to make your NQ50 not quite as fast as an elite S :thumbwink:
