Thanks. We could make do I guess. This is the type of info I am looking for. The guy with a 1999 says it has footpegs and that the 1999 was the last year. We both fit on the Elite right now, but it is tight. Wonder if I can pick up the bugeye somewhere.

The main issue is shoe size, if you have large feet, the floorboard forces you to pigeon toe. The pre-bugs are not as bad. The elite offers more storage than a pre-bug. Replacement parts are cheaper on the Elite. The elite is lighter than the pre-bug by 20 pounds and lighter than the bugeye by 65 pounds. The pre-bug is slightly shorter than the bugeye. The ride will be stiffer on either Zuma compared to the Elite. Performance parts generally cost more for the Zuma than for the Elite. The V-minarelli is getting to be about the same as the variated af05 with a dwindling aftermarket.

Was there a certain direction that you wanted this to go?

Great info. Well, I do need footroom as I am tall and the boys are tall. Praise God. Just need a smooth comfortable ride and I like the looks of the Zuma.

But, I must say I don't understand. I know the seat height is HIGHER on the zuma and the seat Length is longer on the Zuma, why would those things alone not provide more riding comfort? The 1999 Elite SA50P is too wide for my taste.

You said you wanted comfortable and the helix is as comfortable as it gets. But fine if the helix isn't your style you could get a burgman 650 ex(the burgman is probably too expensive at $10,000 though so get the zuma)

I resent the fact that you are poking fun of my dear cousin * in his Helix armchair. For your information he is a Vietnam veteran. He was shot in the buttocks and this is the only comfortable way he can get around town.

The Helix is cool-

Post by nacree »

I know you hate the Helix- but ride one someday, they are extremely comfortable to ride and are pretty peppy. I actually really like the look of the bike. Plus you can get them for almost nothing and they last forever. My girlfriend actually loves to ride on the helix with me because it is so comfortable.

My next project is a Helix with an FC600 motor from a 2006 Silverwing. The problem is I actually enjoy my stock helix so much I am going to find another one to perform the swap on.

Just some things to consider-

Scooters? hmm. I hate that word. Mopeds I can live with.

Ms. Bean does not want a motorcycle, that would make her dream tooooo much about her boyfriend from college and Mr. Bean would get jealous.

AND Ms. Bean is NOT looking for style as she would probably cause entirely tooooo much trouble on a motorcycle.

I think the Aprilia might be the thing for me??? Comments???? :hi:

You are sweet Nathan. My Granpa agrees with you that the Helix has a comfortable seat, but he has a worse case of piles than Gomer. Comfortable makes me think of elastic waist pants and velcro tennis shoes.

not my style. Ms. Bean has a certain style standard to uphold.

The bugeye zuma is taller than the pre-bug zuma, the pre-bug zuma is slightly higher than the elite. The elite seat is wide and soft foam, the shock is soft as it is intended for one person. The pre-bug zuma uses a stiffer foam and is longer but narrower. The pre-bug is designed for two person riding so the shock is sprung heavier. The bugeye zuma seat foam is softer than the pre-bug but stiffer than the elite, wider than the pre-bug but narrower than the elite. I think the bugeye is slightly longer than the pre-bug too, but I don't have them side by side to check. All stock zuma shocks will be stiffer than the elite is. It depends on your riding too. I have spots where the black top has been removed so I hit a 3" wall of black top at 25 mph, this will bottom out my elite but not my zuma. On smooth streets, my elite has the nicer ride for one person riding. The tires can also play a role, the zuma rides on big balloon tires so that will help to absorb more impact.

Oooo, good taste. I had one of those for 2 weeks (all my insurance would cover it for without a new policy) and the RS is fun. The elite or zuma are better for those runs to the grocery store though with the storage, foot board, luggage rack, hand brakes and automatic transmission.

In Iowa, an Elite S is a moped while the Zuma and Helix are motorcycles.
