Iowa models

Post by Kerry »

I've read frowned upon opinions on Iowa models...is t here a reason? Is it a restriction issue or am I reading more into it than there is. I remember someone not wanting an Urban Express Iowa model and read some other posts on slow Spree's etc.

I did use search with no such luck. Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I enjoy this forum and will probably ask more dumb questions down the line.

OK, in addition to removing the washer restrictor in the exhaust you also need to change the main jet in the carb from the Iowa stock of 65 to 68 for the non-Iowa Spree.

I think people are frowning on "Iowa" Sprees and other models because they want to go faster. And while speed is fun, it's not the only thing to riding. Other than the speed issue there is nothing wrong with "Iowa" models. But the restrictions can be delt with. Such as the Urban you talked about. a simple belt change will net 30+ mph.

Dumb questions are always welcome if a simple search does not answer it first.

yeah, not too used to the forum yet...now i know to check the wiki.

I figure if every answer is in wiki, why have a forum....I know redundant questions/answers are tiresome...but new light is insightful at times.

thanks

I think the Wiki was just started this last summer. The forum has been around since 1973  New topics are constantly coming up and some are not even worthy of a Wiki article.

egh? 1973?

I'm essentially agreeing with you. I'm an adm on a board I run and redundant questions are well, annoying at times. We get guys on our forum that just sit like sharks in the ocean for a newbie to ask questions so that they can point out the search function. Well, sometimes some search functions differ from board to board. this one is a pleasure actually.

I just don't dig the pile on new guy attitude (not that it happens here) I'd rather be a help.

Is there a pay service or member contribution here? We get donations for memberships etc. t-shirts, decals...helps the forums survive.

thanks again

At one time there was a forum update or something done that changed all the current members to a 1973 join date. I don't remeber what the actual year was that Noiseguy started the forum. Noiseguy is admin here and he had a donation thread at one time with a paypal account but I think the thread was deleted (when I click the link it says I do not have access to the thread but I know I have looked at it before). I am sure he would still take donations through PM. T-shirts and things seem to be to much of a hassle on the red-tape meets legistics side.

I do see alot of people frown upon the Iowa but i guess if I saw an Urban Express Iowa for a good price i might consider, i mean some of the fun comes from trying to increase perf on any model anyways huh.

How long's the board been around? July 31, 2004. I'm the oldest member.

When I switched it from NukePHP to phpBB, it messed up some of the dates. I never bothered to fix the issue... I'm the oldest member so look at my joined date.

Most Iowa bikes were upgraded to non-Iowa bikes by now... it's pretty straightforward to do. People diss them b/c they are are lower HP and thus slower than other versions of the same bike from the factory. I don't think many remain unmodified...?

The donation link: I'll put it back up again; the board funds are getting low anyway :)
