New to scooting here, just a question to ask the pros...you!

Post by djm209 »

Ok...so i just got my first scooter (chinese...uugggg...)and while i had it i loved it alot. of course, after i did alot of research by looking at your posting and online searches i discovered that....well...i made a grave error and spent alot of money in the wrong place...

lesson learned...

now i just bought my second scooter, its a vintage honda aero 50, 1986, white/blue, great shape with only 400 miles on it and im super excited to get it.

questions....what is the BEST oil i can use in it.

any tips helping me keep this wonderful machine running would be much appreciated. i want to take GOOD care of it so it will stick around for a long, long time.

any ideas and thoughts by the pros would be welcome...

thanks alot.

lee in north carolina.

I'm not a pro but you can "fill your brain" with the service manual located here - http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... f=11&t=681

and I believe the only "changing" of the oil will be in the transmission case because your 2stroke will be burning oil.

the trans oil that polarice is talking about wouls 3 OZ of 10W-30, i use royal purple synthetic. but its your choice, you have to keep an eye on your 2T oil tank as you will burn it with the gas. use a good quailty 2T injector oil. not the stuff from wal-mart as that is mostly for outboard motors. check you local motorsports shop for the 2T oil. and great find on the aero with 400 miles on it. :2thumbs:

hey thanks alot both of you. gonna go with the good stuff. might as well.

downloaded the manual just now, thanks for the link because i was about to blow like thirty bucks to buy it. the manual is awesome for a beginner like me.

so you think its ok to use a symthetic this early? i have no problem with that, i just thought you used that once the mileage got to about 2000 or so....

i get it thursday so ill shoot some pictures then.

The synthetic he mentioned is for the trans gears. I'd personally use Honda GN2 for the injector oil.

thanks alot... gonna go with the honda oil that you mentioned at first and then maybe later switch to the synthetic. dont have a garage so i invested in a huge tarp today with a quality lock.

just waiting until i get it. excited man... first 2 stroke, ive ridden one once and it rocked.

It is a myth that an engine will not break in on synthetic oil. A number of the high end car manufacturers are sending their engines out with synthetic in them. So synthetic will be fine even for the 2 stroke oil.

Just to clarify (since you are new to 2 strokes): There is no engine oil, and no oil change. The motor gets lubrication from an oil pump, fed by the oil tank on your scooter. Make sure to NEVER EVER run out of oil in that tank.

The synthetic 10w30 motor oil they are referring to goes into the transmission at the rear of the block, and gets changed once in a great while.

Like the Z06 where Chevy says it is just getting good at 4k on the oil.

lol, purple oil is so cool
to make it I mix clear synthetic with some of my moms old blue tanzy oil.

j/k, yellow synthetic 4 lyfe!!!

if you used synthetic all of your life the insides of your brain, i mean engine will be gleaming clean, unlike an engine that used regular motor oil which doesnt have cleaning agents and creates sludge...dont let sludge slow your lyfe down, use synthetic
