85 gyro- starts right up, battery good, idels and runs good. after 15-20 min or so of riding bike starts to flood out, stalls and will not restart unless u let it sit for 45min-1hr then its back to running great again. any ideas- all looks good in carb and was recently serviced so it has a correct plug, clean air filter, clean carb, clean gas. but im thinking possible worn float needle maybe not fully seating and making bike flood out but really doubt it?? any ideas? air temps were 63 last week and 71 today when it acted up. runs about 28 which i was told is fine stock.

How do you know it is dying because it is flooded? Sounds more like it is going lean because the tank vent is plugged and you have no fuel flow. Let it sit and vacuum in the tank goes away and you run again until you have too much vacuum in the tank again. Pop the cap and try running without the cap tight.

Re: 85 honda gyro runs great for 1st 30 min or so then dies
i pulled the tank screen, thats clean, i also run an inline fuel filter- when this happened i pulled line off filter thinking their maybe a blockage but nope- good flow and their was fuel flowing. running good then just start to sputter then die after running forabit- if will refire right away when it dies out but stalls out as soon as u give throttle no matter how little or much u give it unless u let it sit.
i did loosen the cap after it died but didnt do a thing so i retightened it and let it sit for the 45 min - i will try running with loose cap to see what happens

Bad bystarter? That could be stuck causing your bike to run real rich once it warms up. Just a suggestion. It could be a few things

He said 15 to20 minutes, if that is true and I assume he is telling the truth the the bystarter is the slowest bystarter on the planet. My bad bystarter took about 2 minutes from start to dead engine.konaking wrote:Bad bystarter? That could be stuck causing your bike to run real rich once it warms up. Just a suggestion. Yeah that's true but I've seen bikes with bad bystarters run fine for as long as ten minutes. But your right most bikes only run for a few minutes before shutting off.
Re: 85 honda gyro runs great for 1st 30 min or so then dies
I had a worn float needle and it had the same simptoms as your bike. I switched mine out with one from a newer carb.
Re: 85 honda gyro runs great for 1st 30 min or so then dies
sorry for the delay - did keep the fuel cap loose but bike not driven far to test recently . This am- went to get a paper 2 blocks away- bike running good then just stalled out and will not fire. now the cap has been taken off the list. I need to dig out my meter. Their is fuel getting to carb. Could a ign coil be shorting out and failing? Besides just dying and crank crank crank is it possible the coil has been trying to give a warning and when it original was getting hot it would kill bike till it cooled down for a bit and now just getting worse cause its done? Will check spark tue when i get time .
