Aftermarket gears tough to turn

Post by Petrock's 1984 Spree »

I remember the stock gears in the final reduction case were easy to turn by hand.

So i tried installing taz aftermarket gears in this morning and once i tightened down the case they are nearly impossible to turn by hand.

Is this the way they are supposed to be or should they be easy to turn by hand like the stock gears?

Thanks!

Sounds like you pressed the main gear on the wrong way.

Not enough gasket maybe? Maybe a washer was put where it shouldn't be or a ball bearing was tweaked during install. Do you have the wheel installed? Maybe the brake cable was pinched or something causeing the brake to drag.

I would double check the instalation. Something is not installed correctly. Probably a washer like eliteguy50 suggested.

Okay thanks. Ive got the washer behind the small primary gear where it should be so thats not the issue.

And it almost immediately gets hard to turn when i screw the bolts in just barely tight.

Could a bearing be not true?

I figure ill just take it to the local honda dealer tomoro and see was they can do about the whole thing

Do you have a gasket? Sealant does not count.

No i have no gasket, just some gasket glue type stuff. Does the gasket thickness really play that big of a part?

Greetings:

Wise Honda-san leaves nothing to chance. The gasket thickness is calculated into shaft endplay.

Without that (?) 0.85mm your shafts will bind. Find one or make one or it won't spin.

Too thick is better than too thin. Autoparts stores carry sheets of the stuff. You'll need an X-Acto knife and sharp scissors.

Double yes! Get a gasket or spend some time making one.

Hint to the suppliers of gear sets. The kits would be a better value if they included the gasket. At the very least include that information in the box you send the gears in.
