Re: quick question about shipping scooters....
I just had one shipped through FedEx Freight and I highly recommend NOT using them. My scoot has a busted and squished Pg long pipe, it sits all crooked and the rear wheel bearings I believe were crushed in some sort of fall....

No insurance? How much was it to ship and from where?

Were working on the claim right now. From KcMo to Rhode Island.
The damage + labor might make the scoot a complete loss.
Shame, I'd hate to see the scoot go but she took a good hit

Re: quick question about shipping scooters....
I would never use FedEx or UPS. Drained all the oil and gas. I carted the thing myself and shipped via a trucking company. I used USF Reddaway, the completed crate with contents was 400 lbs. Cost to ship from Olympia, Washington to Montgomery, Alabama was $516. It arrived in one functioning piece once gas and oil was added.

Re: quick question about shipping scooters....
yeah. i think im gonna have to forget the shipping thing. it looks way too expensive especially when im looking at old honda scooters that cost around 500 bucks....if im gonna pay about that to ship it with the very real possibility its damaged more during shipping...its just not worth it.
shame!!! i cruise craigslist all the time and see scooters in california i WANT and can pay for, and can pay around 200 to ship it, but im not a gambling type.
thanks for the info

Re: quick question about shipping scooters....
Your right most sellers do not want to ship .
Here is how I did it .
I called a few friends that have shipping experience
and asked who they use and any contact names .
Called a bunch of shipping companys * expensive ...
Finally I got an honest guy from a friends referal , He said call this place as that is who they would use / a lot of shipping companys use other shippers and just add on a big commission (rip off )
Then I had to contact the seller (I already sent him the cash .used a walmart moneygram easy and fast )
I lucked out big time the seller in northern California was really cool and even put the bike on a pallet for me . He really went out of his way to help me out . Anyway from shipping quotes from $500.00 to $800.00 I ended paying $ 135.00 and got it in 2 days .(if you do use a shipping company have it shipped to their dock and pick it up you will save a bunch of cash )
Then I bought another Gyro in a small town outside San Francisco had it all set up a friend in Reno was going to visit Vegas and had a truck I was going to give him $100.00 for gas and trouble . Then i get a call from him he said the pass was closed due to a snow storm * I was screwed now what do I do ? Please not another shipping company ( yes I called the one I used the first time but they did not service that town ) ....
So I called everyone I knew in Northern California No one was planning a Vegas trip .A week goes by then 2 then 3 , I did keep in touch with the seller and he was very patient but I wanted the get the bike , I had got it a a very good price ,so I figured I had nothing to lose ... I came up with a goofy idea .....
I put an ad in all the citys around where the bike was CraigsList under rideshare ....
Next day I get a call from a guy with a van that was coming to Vegas in 2 days I asked him how much he wanted ? $75.00 buck for gas ... Done deal ! I lucked out again the guy was great and called when he picked it up and when he was on the road and when he was close to Vegas even brought it to my house and helped me get it out of his van .
This was just a idea that happened to work for me ,I was really lucky and it could have been really bad , So if you do try this and someone rips you off ,Don't blame me , Also I never paid the guy until he got to Vegas .
See photos ....

Re: quick question about shipping scooters....
I've used 66SIX's way twice with success. First time was for a scooter in Salt Lake. My nephew, who is a commercial charter pilot, was able to get the scooter flown by a courier plane from Salt Lake to Portland, Oregon for free. I made the run down to Portland and picked up the scooter. Much better than the 700+ mile each way with my truck.
The second time I had bought a scooter in Spokane, Washington. Planned on making a road trip, 400+ miles each way. Then it snowed and made a mess of the trip. I let it be known that I needed my scooter picked up and brought to this side of the mountains. A friend said he was in Spokane for Thanksgiving and would bring the scooter back to Tacoma. I paid for the trailer, $85 and a week late picked up the scooter in Tacoma.
Sometimes you just need to be patient and think outside the box.
Oh and 66SIX is right about the shipping dock thing, it would have be another $75 to have the scooter I shipped picked up at my house and another $75 to have it delivered to the buyers house.
