cheap performance

Post by killerpancake »

what are some cheap, effective, worth while modifications that can be done to a stock 50cc honda spree to make it get closer to reaching the 45mph mark? or maybe some ways to just get it up to speed quicker?
If it don't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway.

I dont think its possible to hit 45MPH on a Spree with the stock engine and gears. About the only things you can do performance-wise is to get the 44mm or 48mm Big Bore Kit (BBK) that Taz sells on here (and eBay), and also get his gear set. Since the Spree is not variated like some of the other Scooters, the max speed you can go is tightly based on the RPM the engine can rev safely. You will not get near 45MPH with the BBK/Gears. Might hit 30-something on a good day, downhill :)

The BBKs will give you the power you would need if you end up changing the gears. If you dont BBK and put the gears in, it will be real sluggish off the line.

I have the 44mm BBK and it seems pretty good. I did not go for the gears yet, but that may be next. I went for the BBK because the stock cylinder on mine was shot when I got it. I felt the $100 for brand new parts was better than trying to bore the existing stuff.

I believe Taz sells the 44mm BBK and Gears in a bundle for somewhere around $200. The 44mm BBK itself can be had for $100 on eBay.

If you go BBK, be prepared to tinker with carb settings.

about 40 mph is possible with the 44 or 48 mm kit and gears
It will take off slow if 40mph is your goal
just do the kit an d don't do the gears.....then your spree will be "quick" but only go 30mph or so

Swap a dio or af05e engine to be quick AND fast.

you wanna go 45 on a spree best and cheapest way to do it is a dio swap ebay a motor about or arond 200 250 depends on the listings at the time then make a custom mounts which have been very well doc. in our wikispree, this mods do require chop saw and welder so find a buddy if you dont own them.... you will have about 300 325 into a full swap and its the best way to go if you wanna go 45mph

"Cheap performance" is an oxymoron. That's two words that do not go together. Speed and power cost money and when you want a big change in speed and power like you are asking for it cost even more. You have been given good advice.

thanks guys, i was thinking about doing a big bore kit but i won't do that until next year. im not really looking to hit 45, i was just curious if there was any way to give it some extra zip. doing a constant 32 mph gets kinda boring.

Slow down to 20mph, then you can accelerate back up to 32mph :woot: It will feel fast again for about half a second

your best bet is doing a dio swap.with the spree motor you limited by the flow design of the block and the non cvt trans. with a stock dio motor deresticted will do 40mph. with a few mods 50mph will come easy. so getting to 30 or 35mph and cruising at that speed will be easy.also if you have to climb a hill, you dont have to worry about the bike slowing to 20mph or slower due to the very low torque and hp.
Nothing like getting stroked!
