1982 Honda Urban Express verticle Minarelli project.

Post by Crazypunkerguy »

A few months ago I picked up a titled 82 Honda urban express frame off ebay. By some weird coincidence the guy was driving right through my area so I got it delivered for free! A few months later I picked up a 90 Yamaha Jog complete with no title or most of the bodywork. I got it to pop over but it needs a head gasket. I noticed it was the same style mount as the Express which would be easier then swapping my old spree engine. So I went to cutting up the jog frame and getting the mount off. I had my dad tack it in place for now and we will get everything fitted when I get my new shock. The bike will be using a complete Spree front end. I wish I would have had some pics of the motor and front end mocked up but I forgot, Here is the progress!

you should use a frontend that uses a larger front brake assembly. with the vertical minarelli, those motors can go as fast as a dio.lots of aftermarket parts for those engines. you should look into a disc brake front end instead. that 80mm brake drum wont stop you fast enough
Nothing like getting stroked!

i agree with baka. that thing has to weigh nothing and your gonna be putting down some decent power with that motor if done right. as well with the motor stuffed almost directly under the seat, its gonna be fun to keep the front wheel on the ground any time you open up the throttle. if it were me i would have put the motor mount as far back as humanly possible while still having area to mount your shock. that being said, it looks like a ton of fun. i am excited to see where this goes.

I tossed around the idea of using the Jog front end, but the socks were toast and it didn't seem much better then the spree design other then the larger brake. Currently the motor is going to stay stock, maybe a pod filter and exhaust and of coarse an up jet. If I do go all out with it some day I will probably get an Aranda front end like I have for my spree. Also yea, it is light and has like no wind drag! The shock is quite stiff, I am hoping it helps keep the front down. If not I will just keep my weight over the bars lol!
