Whats the easiest way to put in some piston rings without breaking them?
I do not have a compressor for the rings. let me know the safest way to do so. thanks.

The mark on the rings facing up. Then "roll" the rings down one groove at a time.
And you would want a ring expander not compressor

Thanks guys. For a noobie would it be easier just to remove the motor from the frame and do it that way?

I just looked at that wiki link. I leave piston on the crank rod, compress rings by hand at the 10 and 2 locations, and slide cylinder down piston. Just hold the springs so the cutouts in the cylinder skirt are lined up with you fingers.

If you don't like the bending over, it can be. The spree frame is more intrusive than the sa50 frame that was used for those pictures. I usually just prop up the spree and drop the shock, allowing the motor to swing down more. This way you won't have to worry about oil/fuel lines or wires, but you have more room to work the cylinder on.CamTastic wrote:Thanks guys. If this is the ring compressor you are talking about, I find doing it by hand to be easier on these engines.

Don't bother with that, a simple hose clamp will work just fine.eliteguy50 wrote:If this is the ring compressor you are talking about, I find doing it by hand to be easier on these engines.
