Re: AF16E Spree swap, summer project!
Try and do a test on the af16e and see what you get.

Re: AF16E Spree swap, summer project!
I think i may have found my problem
After cranking the engine round and round with a socket wrench on the stator and only getting a top psi reading of 45 psi i unbolted the head and this is what i found
The head was clean when i put it on btw

P1010724 by jpetrak, on Flickr

P1010727 by jpetrak, on Flickr
Its hard to see what it is but its oil thats getting through the head gasket. Thats where im losing all my compression. And there is oil on the head and the jug so the head gasket isnt making a good seal on either side.
Im guessing honda bond isnt the best idea but i dont know of another way to get the head to make a good seal against the jug
Any ideas?

Re: AF16E Spree swap, summer project!
I just remember seeing the front tire of the moped my AF16E was from in the school as well.
Could i fit that tire and rim on the front of the spree without having to modify anything?
Im definately interested if it will give me a little bigger brakes in front

Re: AF16E Spree swap, summer project!
I think I've found a solution by trolling around on the forums. I'm going to do an o-ring mod to the head to make it seal well and then stack as many head gaskets as I need up against the jug to get the right spacing. I'm going to use the o-ring polini uses for their heads. I managed to find the size and cross section if the o-ring but I need two more dimensions to make this do-able. If anybody knows are can measure...
1) How deep the groove is that polini cuts into their head to seat the o-ring
2) How far away is the begining of the groove from the very outside of the squish band
Thanks a bunch!

Re: AF16E Spree swap, summer project!
Turns out they did have the front forks and front wheel of the Elite laying around so i snatched it up for cheap
The Elite whell definately does not fit in the Spree forks so im looking into swapping the forks as well
I know the forum member Levi has done this but he hasnt been on in a while and was wondering if anyone else has done something similar and how difficult it is
Thanks

Just cut and weld. If you have the skill, it is not difficult.Petrock's 1984 Spree wrote:Turns out they did have the front forks and front wheel of the Elite laying around so i snatched it up for cheap![]()

Re: AF16E Spree swap, summer project!
So its not just as simple as pulling out the old steering column and sliding in the new one?
Oh well, cutting and welding isnt a problem
It sounds like a blast and id love to have the extra stopping power

Greetings:
One other option is to keep the Spree fork but install a Metropolitan brake panel. Because both forks are telescopic, the tangs on the panel engage the one on the fork in a "vertical" orientation on both. However the design/size may be different and fork spacing issues may need to be sorted out.
I have the Met panel if you're interested. Shipping cost only.

Re: AF16E Spree swap, summer project!
Ah thats awesome! I might use that as a back up because i really want to try this. The spree forks are pretty soft and the elite forks are a bit stiffer which will be better for a little faster speeds. Im going to make sure to reinforce where i weld the new forks on with steel plate. It should be awesome
On a side note, the reason for me to be using the elite tire tire is go with the bigger drum brake. How does using the met brake help me? Because for it to fit on the spree rim doesnt it have to be the same size as the spree drum brake?

The Met hub will not fit the spree rim. You would have to swap rim and hub.Petrock's 1984 Spree wrote:... How does using the met brake help me? Because for it to fit on the spree rim doesnt it have to be the same size as the spree drum brake?

Re: AF16E Spree swap, summer project!
Greetings:
EliteDude50 is exactly right. The Met brake is 95mm and wider swept area than the Spree's tiny adequate-for-30MPH binder. Of course a Met or late-Elite rim will be needed, but that's a good thing too. Bigger tire for at least some measure of additional cush as well as traction.

And where do i cut the elite forks off their stem?
