I thought i told them to FIX it....

Post by Ozzimo »

so I got some cash for my birthday to send the scoot into the shop for basically a tune up and to fix some wiring that i messed up once upon a time. After a * week of waiting i got it back. They tolf me they fixed the wiring, replaced the spark plug and air filter, and i seem to remember him saying they tightened something but I can't remember what exactly. But here's the problem. I get it back and start it up and try driving off. I get no acceleration and as I hit the 20mph mark the scoot bogs, slows very quickly and I feel like I was going over the top of the scoot a little. The farther I drove the easier it got but I still feel like it lost a good deal of power and now on every startup it dies and recovers for until i get out on a street.

My gut says its an Air thing but what do you guys think?

Those sound like carb problems, which may or may not be related to the service. When was the last time you cleaned the carb out?

truthfully, im betting the carb has never been cleaned. When I bought it, the guy who sold it to me was the second owner and he rode it school daily, before that it was some grandma who let her kids ride it every once in a while. On top of that I only recently switched to two-stroke oil. Before that I used 10-w30 like a dumbass.

You may be right... we'll see how it goes.

It might be that your muffler is getting plugged from carbon buildup from using10w30 oil. Your exhaust port could also be almost plugged. That would definitely cause loss of power. Cylinder head is another spot for carbon buildup from using oil that was not meant for scooter engines.

Ok, so I gave it a look at today. ir filter is there and loks fine, s does everything else. All in its place, nothing sticking out or funky like that. So know im going through my options:

From what I understand, chances are its my use of 10w30 oil that is most likely the cause of the whole deal. The tune up probebly just loosened up whatever crap was lingering in the first place and found its way intot he system. So my new question is this:

What is the most likely place to start tinkering and how do I go about it without sending it back to the shop. (Im a college student after all I just don't have the cash.)

I imagine a carb clean would be on the list but how would I clean the crap out of the muffler?
