The tab is the center of the motor.(don't mess with it)

The hole in the scooter is the center of the frame.

Alright thanks for the help man :thumbwink:
I really woulda jacked that up

So ill do that hopefully on monday as weld up the new shock mount. I got the m10x140 bolt and will drill a hole through the frame right before the VR mount. Ill slide the bolt through and weld it on both sides. Then on the underside of the frame ill weld a steel plate in to try and spread the force of the shock over the area of the steel plate.

On a side note, i went to northern tool again today and picked this up to use on my external gas tank. But there has to be a reason why it says hydraulic fluid only.
http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... _200466923

Im guessing ill have to return it, but it was the only cap i could find that had to the mount as well as the cap. And for $9, on sale, i couldnt not get it

Hey TJamz, thanks for being able to sway me in the right direction on this one

I borrowed a dremel from a friend and managed to true up the rear wheel in about 20 minutes.
That little thing didnt like eating steel too much

So i figure when i get something like it ill spring for a RotoZip. 5 amps of power on the roto vs. 1.6 with a dremel...sign me up!
So ill go in and weld the washers tomoro as well as hopefully crank out the shock mount.
Then the rest of this is going to go along real smooth!
I also decided that im going to add a zx pulley to the tranny from VT cycles if they have them laying around. I dont want to tear into the tranny again to add something i didnt upgrade later on.
If your going to do it once, do it right :2thumbs:

Thanks again!

That is the good part about the af16, you have a 2 piece cover. You only need to pull one nut to pull the bell off.

Alright i got the engine mount ground down and welded the washers on there so the wheel is great now

And i also got the shock mount done
Instead of drilling through the frame, i welded the bolt to a steel plate, then welded the steel plate to the underside of the frame

P1010837 by jpetrak, on Flickr
And for good measure, i threw another steel plate on the inside of the frame right above the bolt. Both plates are 7 inches long

Its not going anywhere!
Image
P1010841 by jpetrak, on Flickr
Also, doing it this way gave me some more clearance so i dont believe ill need that shock extension :geekdance:

Next thing to do is tearing it all off, sand down the frame a little, and then paint it with some gloss black enamel to prevent rust :2thumbs:

Was cruising around the forum and stumbled upon Spreetard's gusset thread again and now I'm wondering if I should steal that page right out of his book. :nerd:
Are the necessary? I get they add rigidity but would you want or need them on a daily rider or is that sort of thing more for a drag build?

Necessary, no, but neither is 14" of 1/4" steel plate for a shock mount. If you want the most reliability, do the gusset plates while you have it tore down. The only reason I would not do the gusset plates at this point is if you don't want to cut your plastics for clearance.

Haha yeah yeah. Might as well continue on with the "tank" mentality
I figure I'll copy one of the two gussets, the one in the rear. Then do something a little drifferent for the one up front because I don't want to hack my plastics.

Thanks D! I think I'm about an inch off being the factory lengths and factory angles off the Elite so I'm happy with it :geekdance:

If you are not running the stock front fender, a reinforcement could be welded to the outside of the curve instead of the inside. That was my original idea, but I didn't want to cut the back off the fender to clear it.

Jeez man way to let the cat outta the bag and just read my mind

That's exactly what I had in mind. Use a similar rear gusset, and then wrap some quarter inch steel plate to the frame where it bends.
Unfortunately me and the fam are headed to Florida tomoro for spring break so I gotta *shudder* let it go for a week :nervous:

Unfortunately? Going to Florida for spring break and just one week after bike week. :woot: Down there you can rent scoots that are ready to ride as is so you can get in some actual street time, maybe more ideas too.

Have fun :hi:

Haha no I know, I can't wait to head down there and get out of this constant 30 degree weather! Oh and I will definately be looking around for some scooter ideas to bring back. Were headed down to Orlando so there has to be some scooter related stuff down there.
It'll also be amazing just to get away for a week. I'm stoked
