New jet with big bore upgrade, throttle stuck wide open
I just put a big bore kit on an old spree which included a new carb jet. I'm not sure if it is the new jet, or a problem with the throttle doohicky that drops down into the carb (sorry to be so technical) not going in far enough. The cylinder in the throttle body is lined up with the little detent and it appears to be dropping down all the way, but runs nearly wide open when started. I just cleaned the whole carb out really well too.
Any suggestions appreciated!

You have the throttle cylinder in backwards.

Ok, I thought that also and will check again, but I checked it against another carb I just rebuilt on another spree. There is that little wedge shaped cut on one side and the full length cut on the otherside for the cable. I have the wedge shaped cut closest to the engine, where the little detent is, works great on the other spree... Is that wrong?
I will go double check right after these steaks are done. Thanks for the quick replies!

P.S. It sounds like this thing is going to be a monster after the big bore install!

If the slide is in wrong.....you will notice because the twist throttle feels wrong.

Yep, it is in backwards. The wedge cut out goes toward the idle stop screw which is on the outside of the carb.

Of course, this worked like a champ! I'm such a noob. I better stick to airplanes.
Anyway, now I have to find some exhaust studs. Is that a hardware / honda shop item, or do I need to hit the ebay spree parts store I have grown so accustomed to...? The old studs are way rusted into the old cylinder - 4700 miles rusted.
thanks again, folks!

Some hardware stores will have the correct stud you need but most around me do not carry the metric studs. Any decent power sports shop will be able to get them for you and a moped shop should have them in stock. You need 6x18 and they will probably be $3-4 for the pair.cubdriver wrote:Of course, this worked like a champ! I'm such a noob. I better stick to airplanes.
