Greetings:

Quoth The Bear:
my (a little emphasis added, -Ed.) Spree with my 140 lbs wife still does 28 mph on the GPS. But there is no way even a 20 pound rider would equate a 39 mph Spree.
Ya got me there, Bear. If Carnie should drive out to the Left Coast and ride your '85, he probably won't go any faster on it than you or Ms. Bear. But that's not what we're talking about.

The claim was 36MPH, if I read correctly, not 39.
The Spree is an '87, not an '85.
He's done some mods, the nature of which I don't recall.
I believe him when he says he's going 36. Evidently you don't agree, and that's your perogative.
That Split-Window bug will do 100 if it has a small-block Chevy under the front hood. Ask me how I know.

"I was riding around today and on one stretch of flat ground I got my ol Spreezie up to 39mph. All stock. I am pretty pleased." is what the original post says.

You wheelman are the one that converted it to 36. I notice that he still has no GPS readings or any creditable witness. And for a Spree to suddenly go this fast after becoming 25 plus years old is not only ludicrous but beyond belief by anyone playing with a full deck.

Bear, I dont know where you live, but if you are anywhere near SW Missouri, I would love to meet you for a ride sometime just to prove that my Spree will, on flat ground with no wind, hit and exceed 35 MPH. I ran my GPS with me tonight, and with flat ground and no wind, I did indeed hit 36.1 MPH.

Wheelman, the claim was 39, but I did have a strong wind at my back. The average is 34-35 with the occasional 36mph mark. I compared my gps and my Spreedometer tonight and at 37 mph via spreedometer, the gps read 36.1. So you were correct as to the claim of my S.O. lying to me, but at 0.9 mph off the mark, that still puts me at 38.1mph on the day of my original post. Still, exceptionally well for a nearly stock spree.

Greetings:

Several cards missing in mine. Hmm... Maybe that's why I never win at Solitaire.
Spree-Dometer later reported to be ~10% optimistic by all, including yours, thus 36MPH.
It's still an '87 running downwind, perhaps on taller gears.
Amusingly, about 20% faster than yours. Don't worry, you still have the Aeros, the 80s, the 125s...

No...I converted it. Actually I said 37. I was with him. Let me repeat that. I WAS THERE. I don't know what you need for a credible witness but this is about as good as you're gonna get on a board with people spread all over the nation.

Notice that Carnie has now posted his GPS verified speed on flat ground with no wind. Come one Bear...wouldn't it feel nice to just tip your hat and say "good for you"? That's what you really want to do isn't it?

I agree... "mostly stock" is what gets me. I have no aftermarket parts on ol' red, but I make no claim to it being "stock", as EVERYTHING has been modified. A spree CAN go this fast. A stock spree cannot. Stop calling it "stock" or "mostly stock" and supplement "modified" and all of a sudden your claims are not stupid. The moment you say a stock spree can go even 35 on flat ground, you are full of s*** up to your eyeballs.

And wind is as good as a hill. Useless numbers. I went close to 60 in my spree with the engine turned off, down a really big hill. Should I claim credit for mother natures achievment of a 55+mph spree? No. That would make me a tool.

Best part is when i had my 44mm bbk gears and other mods.... when me and him rode together it was almost even i had one more mph on him so if he drafted me he could pass me till he caught clean air, but my take offs where 100 times better then his though.........
